Post-Tib Tendonitis Definition
Post-Tib Tendonitis is a strain placed on the posterior tibial tendon. The posterior tibial tendon runs along the inside of the ankle and the foot. When there is post-tibial tendon disfunction, the tendon does not function to hold up the arch, resulting in flat feet. This can lead to heel pain, arch pain, plantar fasciitis and/or heel spurs. With post-tib tendonitis, pain will be more severe upon weight bearing, especially while walking or running.
Cause
Post-Tib Tendonitis occurs when the muscle is overused and the tendon (soft tissue) that connects the muscle to your bone is strained. Years of over-pronation (flat feet) can also lead to posterior tibial tendon dysfunction. If you keep overusing the muscle, damage to the tendon builds up and tendonitis develops. At first the pain or swelling may come and go quickly, but eventually the problem may become more permanent.
To treat post-tib tendonitis, you can reduce your symptoms by limiting activity to control the pain and swelling. Stay off your feet a few days, then slowly increase your activity. Rest allows the tissues in your foot to heal.

Details
This disorder is seen in athletes that engage in running and jumping type sports such as basketball or volleyball. It is characterized by pain in the front of the knee that ranges from a dull ache to severe and sharp pain. As the inflammation progresses pain will occur during sports and then maybe even at rest. Causes Patellar tendonitis is an overuse syndrome. Repetitive or power jumping contributes to swelling and inflammation in the patellar tendon. If untreated, small tears and degeneration of the tendon may occur. Poor muscle flexibility may also be responsible for causing patellar tendonitis. Diagnosis Patellar tendonitis is diagnosed when an athlete complains of pain in the front of the knee coupled with tenderness over the area between the knee cap (Patella) and the shin bone (Tibia). Xrays may show a high riding kneecap. Occasionally, an MRI scan or ultrasound is employed to confirm the extent of the patellar tendon involvement.

Tendonitis of the shoulder is an inflammation of the rotator cuff and/or biceps tendon. Shoulder tendonitis is usually the result of a tendon being pinched by surrounding structures. Shoulder tendonitis often occurs in certain sports that require the arm to move over the head repeatedly, such as in baseball, weight lifting, racket sports, and certain swimming strokes. The injury may vary from mild inflammation to involvement of most of the rotator cuff. When the rotator cuff tendon becomes inflamed and thickened, also known as rotator cuff tendonitis, it may get trapped under the acromion (the roof, or highest point, of the shoulder that is formed by a part of the scapula, or shoulder blade). What are the symptoms of shoulder tendonitis?

Tendonitis What are tendon problems?
Two major problems with tendons are tendonitis and tenosynovitis. Tendonitis, inflammation of a tendon (the tough cords of tissue that connect muscles to bones) can affect any tendon, but is most commonly seen in the wrist and fingers. When the tendons become irritated, swelling, pain, and discomfort often occur. Tenosynovitis is the inflammation of the lining of the tendon sheaths which enclose the tendons. The tendon sheath is usually the site which becomes inflamed, but both the sheath and the tendon can become inflamed simultaneously. The cause of tenosynovitis is often unknown, but usually strain, overuse, injury, or excessive exercise may be implicated. Tendonitis may also be related to disease (i.e., diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis). Common tendon disorders include the following:
  • lateral epicondylitis (commonly known as backhand tennis elbow) - a condition caused by continual stress on the muscles and extensor tendons of the forearm, which originate at the elbow.

Causes, Incidence, and Risk Factors
Tendonitis can occur as a result of injury, overuse, or with aging as the tendon loses some of its elasticity. It can also be seen in systemic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis . Tendonitis can occur in any tendon, but some commonly affected sites are the shoulder, the wrist, the heel (Achilles tendon), and the elbow.

Posts to Ask Dr Stoll BB regarding Tendonitis and Bursitis
There have been several posts to the Ask Dr Stoll
Bulletin Board (BB) regarding Tendonitis and Bursitis.
Many of them have been archived here. The archive is roughly
chronological. I hope you find it useful.
Summary:
Tendonitis, bursitis, fibromyositis and fibromyalgia are all caused by the same mechanisms that ultimately cause arthritis. SO reviewing those archives and search parameters will get you what you need.
For bursitis, Rolfing is probably the ideal thing to do, as is tendonitis. This is because Rolfing chages the alignment of the total body. See the glossary for any unfamiliar terms.
For all of these conditions, the essential oils tend to help as well (see the homepage).

Achilles Tendonitis
: Your Achilles tendon is not a complete structure by itself. It actually connects muscles to the bottom of your foot, allowing you to plantar flex (point) your foot. So, how do you develop Achilles Tendonitis? I've already given you one hint. There are MANY contributing factors that influence the development of Achilles Tendonitis. Although the pain and inflammation is in the Achilles Tendon, the CAUSE can be from a completely different structure. Many times cortisone injections are given but provide little or temporary relief. If you don't address the structures that are causing the initial irritation, you won't get long term relief! Find out what other influences or structures need to be addressed and how you can release these YOURSELF!
Includes 4 tapes.
  • The cost of one video title can save you hundreds of dollars in other health care expenses, useless gadgets, or time off from things you enjoy. You would have to spend thousands of dollars in education, go to numerous trainings, and spend years in the clinical and health fields to get the equivalent of what you will receive in each of these videos.

Tendonitis:
Tennis Elbow is not limited to only those who play tennis. Many people that type a lot, play racquet sports, knit, rock climb, work in construction, travel, etc., end up with this condition. Often, it is prescribed that they either wear a brace by their elbow or get cortisone injections. But, the problem still persists and the cortisone shots don't seem to help anymore. Whether you have been suffering from tendonitis, or are in the acute phase of pain, you can learn what causes or contributes to the development of this condition and how to work the problem areas out by yourself! Although there are many influences to the development of Tendonitis, or "Tennis Elbow", there are two primary areas that are consistent with people that have this condition. When those areas are released, their pain went away and did not return! Learn how to work those specific areas.
Includes 3 tapes.
