New Beer in an Old Bottle (review)
This page contains a review of New Beer in an Old Bottle: Eduard Buchner and the Growth of Biochemical Knowledge by Ronald Bentley published in ASM News I suspect that, like myself, most microbiologists are unfamiliar with publications from the University of Valencia. Most of the 44 volumes are in Spanish and deal with subjects in the humanities. New Beer in an Old Bottle pressjuice is covered in Parts I (three articles) and II (seven articles), comprising somewhat more than half of the book. Since Buchner had obtained a multienzyme preparation, Part III (six articles) focuses on modern investigations of such systems. There is speculation on the future role of biochemistry and enzymology and on the prospects for new pharmacological agents to control infection. Whether scientists need to know the general history of their subject has been much debated. If, as I believe, they do, teacher and students alike would profit from consuming New Beer. Benchmark Papers in Biochemistry, volume 1, Enzymes). one finds that, already after 1/4 to
