FICHA Nacionalidad: Francia Mondovi (argelia) 1913 - Villeblevin 1960 Debido a su pésimo estado de salud y los problemas económicos tuvo una difícil juventud. Sus primeros trabajos fueron como actor y periodista. Con veintisiete años establece su residencia en París. En la década de los años cuarenta, coincidiendo con la llegada al poder de los nazis , Camus se opuso abiertamente a este régimen, formando parte de la Resistencia francesa durante la ocupación . Es en estos años cuando empieza a crecer su prestigio como novelista con obras como "El extranjero", pero la novela con la que alcanza verdadero reconocimiento es con "La peste". Camus apoyó el existencialismo y el teatro del absurdo. Es además autor de "El hombre rebelde", "Muerte feliz", etc. En 1957 recibe el Premio Nobel de literatura. Camus, Albert Ecrivain français, auteur de l’Étranger et de la Peste, qui fut un des principaux acteurs de la vie intellectuelle de l’après-guerre. Un intellectuel engagé Né en Algérie au sein d’une famille modeste, orphelin de père, Albert Camus commença des études de philosophie pendant lesquelles il subit l’influence de son ami Jean Grenier (qui lui fit notamment découvrir Nietzsche) mais qu’il dut interrompre pour raison de santé (il était atteint de tuberculose). Parallèlement, il commença à participer à des projets dramatiques en adaptant ou en jouant des pièces de théâtre. Pendant son bref passage au Parti communiste (1935-1936), il fonda et anima la troupe du Théâtre du Travail afin de mettre les œuvres dramatiques classiques et contemporaines à la portée du public défavorisé. Il anima ensuite une autre troupe, le Théâtre de l’Équipe, et publia sa première œuvre, l’Envers et l’Endroit (1937), une série d’essais littéraires variés où apparaissent déjà les grands thèmes de sa maturité : la mort, le soleil, la Méditerranée, l’isolement, le destin de l’homme, le rapprochement entre désespoir et bonheur, etc.

Alienation, the fear of anonymity, spiritual doubtall could have been given a purely modern inflection in the hands of a lesser talent than Camus, who won the Nobel Prize in 1957 and was noted for his existentialist aesthetic. The remarkable trick of The Stranger , however, is that it's not mired in period philosophy. The plot is simple. A young Algerian, Meursault, afflicted with a sort of aimless inertia, becomes embroiled in the petty intrigues of a local criminal and, somewhat inexplicably, ends up killing a man. Once he's imprisoned and eventually brought to trial, his crime, it becomes apparent, is not so much the arguably defensible murder he has committed as it is his deficient character. Intro Biographie Oeuvres Liens Biographie d'Albert Camus (1913-1960) Une enfance pauvre Albert Camus naît à Mondovi (Algérie) le 7 Novembre 1913. Il est le second enfant de Lucien Camus, ouvrier agricole et de Catherine Sintes, une jeune servante d'origine espagnole qui ne sait pas écrire et qui s'exprime difficilement. Lucien Camus est mobilisé pendant la première guerre mondiale et meurt lors de la Bataille de la Marne. Le jeune Albert ne connaîtra pas son père. Sa mère s'installe alors dans un des quartiers pauvres d'Alger, Belcourt. Grâce à l'aide de l'un de ses instituteurs, M. Germain, Albert Camus obtient une bourse et peut ainsi poursuivre ses études au lycée Bugeaud d'Alger. Il y découvre à la fois les joies du football (il devient le gardien de but du lycée) et de la philosophie, grâce à son professeur Jean Grenier. Il est alors atteint de la tuberculose, une maladie qui plus tard, l'empêchera de passer son agrégation de philosophie. Le militant et le résistant Il obtient son bac en 1932 et commence des études de philosophie. Cette année-là il publie ses premiers articles dans une revue étudiante. Il épouse en 1934, Simone Hié et doit exercer divers petits boulots pour financer ses études et subvenir aux besoins du couple. En 1935, il adhère au parti communiste, parti qu'il quittera en 1937.
