Today, The Caliph of Turkey announced that the city of 'Constantinople' would throw of its greek name, and take a name befitting the capitol of a proud Turkish nation, Istanbul. One wag was later heard to remark: "Istanbul was Constantinople, now it's Istanbul not Constantinople... " 10th February 1908. Routers tickertape.
Portuguese unrest results in death
Carlos I (1863-1908), king of Portugal (1889-1908) died today at the hands of a violent mob. Two years ago, in 1906, he gave statesman João Franco virtual dictatorial powers to try and curb the dissent that was a direct result of the English and French occupation in the iberian peninsular. Franco's harsh measures, however, further increased the unrest and resulted in the death today of Carlos and his eldest son. 1st February 1908. Routers tickertape.

Royal Navy runs Out of Names
There is growing speculation that the Admiralty of the Royal Navy has run out of names for its ships. Over recent years the size of the navy has grown dramatically, with new capital ships being launched on an increasingly regular basis. The recent launch of HMS What shall we call this one, John?
