    Camillo Golgi Médico italiano galardonado con el Premio Nobel y famoso por su trabajo sobre el sistema nervioso humano. Nació en Corteno y estudió en la Universidad de Pavía. Fue catedrático de histología y patología en esta universidad y en la de Siena. Sus principales aportaciones estuvieron relacionadas con el estudio del tejido nervioso . Fue el primero en emplear nitrato de plata para teñirlo antes de examinarlo al microscopio , y consiguió demostrar la estructura de los procesos de las células nerviosas . En el campo de la patología, Golgi demostró la existencia de tres variedades de parásitos correspondientes a diferentes tipos de malaria . Por sus trabajos sobre la estructura del sistema nervioso compartió en 1906 el Premio Nobel de Fisiología y Medicina con el histólogo español Don Santiago Ramón y Cajal
