Henrik Pontoppidan, Biography Kuusankosken kaupunginkirjasto © 1997 (revised 1999 JM) Danish novelist whose realistic novels depicted the social fabric of Denmark in his time and who shared with Karl Gjellerup the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1917. Pontoppidan was born in the town of Fredricia, on the Jutland Peninsula. His father was a follower of N.F.S. Grundtvig, a radical theologian. The family moved to Randers, which was briefly occupied and sacked by Prussian and Austrian troops. This left a deep impression on Pontoppidan, and later he returned in the invasion in his works. Pontoppidan studied at Copenhagen's Polytechic Institute and completed his preliminary engineering studies by 1879. He worked then as a teacher in a folk high school and published his first collection of short stories Clipped Wings in 1881. He married Mette Marie Hansen and thereafter he supported himself by writing. The couple travelled in Germany, Schwitzerland and Italy after their marriage. They lived in the country until they broke up in 1888. Also in 1988, Pontoppidan moved to the Copenhagen municipality Frederiksberg. His trilogy The Promised Land , about followers of Grundtvig and his rival, the evangelical Indre Mission, appeared 1891-1895. In 1892 he married Antoinette Kofoed, with whom he travelled in southeren Europe for a year.

Henrik Pontoppidan Forfatter.

Praca nasza wymaga³a ogromnego nak³adu czasu. Wiele godzin spêdzi³yœmy w bibliotekach, czytelniach, poszukuj¹c tekstów, szperaj¹c, analizuj¹c. Odrêbnym etapem naszej pracy by³o przygotowanie zebranych materia³ów, segregowanie, eliminowanie i uzupe³nianie. Zale¿a³o nam, aby ca³oœæ by³a atrakcyjna, a zarazem czytelna. Dla uzyskania estetycznego wygl¹du zachowa³yœmy niewielkie marginesy, oraz wyró¿ni³yœmy tytu³y dzie³. PAUL VON HEYSE - ur. 15 marca 1830 r. Berlin, zm. 2 kwietnia 1914 r. Monachium. Poeta, powieœciopisarz, dramaturg i nowelista niemiecki. Jako m³ody ch³opak zafascynowany twórczoœci¹ Boccaccia, Dantego i Leopardiego zacz¹³ pisaæ swoje pierwsze wiersze, sztuki i opowiadania. Zdaniem niektórych badaczy literatury do pisania namówili Heyse’go literaci z grupy “Tunnel über der spree” oraz jego przyjaciel, poeta Emanuel Giebel. Prze³omowym momentem w ¿yciu Paula Von Heysa okaza³ siê rok 1854, kiedy to król Maksymilian II zaprosi³ Heyse’go na swój dwór do Monachium i wyznaczy³ mu roczn¹ pensjê. Razem z Geiblem sta³ siê on szybko duchowym przywódc¹ ko³a poetów w tym mieœcie. W 1855 r.
