Rabin Memoirs murphysea1@hotmail.com Mister Prime Minister,
I am a History student in DCU (Dublin, Republic of Ireland), and I actually study Israel's history. I read the "Rabin Memoirs" with utmost interest, but I keep asking myself: with everything that has happened in the Middle-East since 1977, don't you think that you wrote this book too soon? Are you preparing another book about the Peace Process?
Yours respectfully,
Sean Murphy Yitzhak Rabin Sir,
I obviously do not know as much about your country as you do about mine. All I seem to remember is that Ireland was the Third Reich's objective ally, during WWII.
Well. That was a long time ago, and you probably weren't born, then.
Hence, I thank you for the interest you show for Israel. My country's history is not very long, but it has been intense until today, and not just, as you rightly point out, before 1979. I wrote my memoirs as soon as I got time to do it. As you know, I left power in may 1977 and became a simple Knesseth Member. That let me plenty of time to write. I must even admit I was very bored, most of the time.
I eventually got back in the government, as Defense Minister, in 1984, and since then, I've been too busy making Israel's history to manage writing about it. Should I get more time in the future, I would most certainly publish again, but for now, you've got to satisfy yourself with writing to me through Dialogus. I will be happy to answer any of your questions.
