NOBEL ÖDÜLÜ KAZANAN KÝMYACILAR The prize is being awarded with one half jointly to: ALAN J. HEEGER ALAN G. MACDIARMID , and HIDEKI SHIRAKAWA for the discovery and development of conductive polymers. AHMED ZEWAIL for his studies of the transition states of chemical reactions using femtosecond spectroscopy. The prize was awarded for pioneering contributions in developing methods that can be used for theoretical studies of the properties of molecules and the chemical processes in which they are involved. The prize was divided equally between: WALTER KOHN for his development of the density-functional theory and JOHN A. POPLE for his development of computational methods in quantum chemistry. The prize was divided, one half being awarded jointly to: PAUL D. BOYER and JOHN E. WALKER for their elucidation of the enzymatic mechanism underlying the synthesis of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and with one half to: JENS C. SKOU

Academic Genealogy of Anthony Dribben, Ph.D.
An "academic genealogy" traces a scientist's background via Ph.D. mentors. Before the 20th century chemists did not commonly work with an individual doctoral advisor, so the the early genealogies are open to interpretation. A good deal of information prior to Perkin was taken from the Chemical Genealogy Database at the University of Illinois. Other sources are included.

Jones, University of Wales, circa 1930 - Jones is probably best known for publishing the conditions now known as the "Jones Oxidation", the chromic acid oxidation of secondary alcohols to ketones (Bowden, K.; Heilbron, I.M.; Jones, E.R.H. J. Chem. Soc. , 39). Jones was also a mentor to Sir D.H.R. Barton (Nobel Prize in Chemistry, 1969 for the development of the concept of conformation and its application in chemistry), among others. A long time editor of J. Org. Chem.

Facts and Figures [Annual Report] Our mission at Liverpool is the pursuit of excellence. Liverpool is one of the UK's leading research universities with a reputation nationally and internationally for high quality teaching and research. In the course of its history the University has been associated with no less than eight Nobel Laureates Liverpool is distinctive for the high proportion of teaching and research which relates to the professions including accountancy, architecture, dentistry, engineering, law, medicine, planning, social work and veterinary science. This is combined with considerable strengths in all the principal areas of study in the humanities, sciences and social sciences. The nature of its academic portfolio and its location at the heart of the city and region have also enabled the University to play a prominent role in the regeneration of Merseyside Nobel Laureates Sir Ronald Ross (1902)
