Die Nobel-Stiftung wurde von Alfred Nobel, einem mit der Herstellung von Dynamit – "Nobels Sicherheitspulver" – reich gewordenen Schweden gegründet. Er verfügte testamentarisch, dass die Zinsen des in die Stiftung eingebrachten Kapitals jährlich zu fünf gleichen Teilen zugunsten hervorragender Leistungen auf den Gebieten der Physik, der Chemie, der Medizin, der Literatur und des Friedens einzusetzen seien. nobel Non è vero che la Storia la fa chi pensa di farla. Per esempio: i vecchioni dell'Accademia di Stoccolma pensano di fare la storia della letteratura: invece non è vero. Perché sono incappati in sviste squalificanti (l'ultima è stata quella di considerare Dario Fo un letterato: ma voi avete mai letto un libro di Dario Fo?). Hanno premiato gente allucinante dai nomi improbabili. Hanno conferito il prestigioso riconoscimento (!) a Winston Churchill (nel '53). E' vero che l'anno dopo si sono corretti e hanno segnalato Hemingway, ma l'anno dopo ancora si sono nuovamente sbagliati, e hanno chiamato a ritirare il premio un certo Halldór Kiljan Laxness. Non hanno riconosciuto il valore letterario di una barca di maestri del Novecento (per esempio: Pynchon e Salinger stanno ancora aspettando...).
Sembrerebbe uno scherzo, vero? Invece è la tragica realtà. Come potete controllare voi stessi. Magari cliccando sui nomi che linkano a schede tutte da scoprire... Non l'ha vinto Marcel Proust . Non l'hanno dato a Jorge Luis Borges . Non l'ha preso Kafka e nemmeno Joyce . Invece sono premi Nobel per la letteratura Pär Fabian Lagerkvist, Lucila Godoy Y Alcayaga, Johannes Vilhelm Jensen, Karl Adolph Gjellerup e Henrik Pontoppidan. E nel 1953, è stato insignito per meriti letterari anche Winston Churchill. Sembra una parodia di Clarence, e invece è tutto vero.

Nobelova nagrada za književnost 1901. - 2001. / uredila Zdenka Sviben. - Zagreb : Knjižnice grada Zagreba, 2001. - 108 str. U povodu 165. godišnjice roðenja Alfreda Nobela i obilježavanja "Mjeseca hrvatske knjige '98" u Gradskoj je knjižnici od 15. listopada do 10. studenoga 1998. godine bila prireðena izložba portreta i djela književnika - dobitnika Nobelove nagrade za književnost od 1901. do 1998. godine. Izložba je tada pobudila veliki interes, kako korisnika, tako i kolega knjižnièara. U nekoliko smo navrata graðu (portrete i tekstove) s te izložbe davali kolegama za prigodne izložbe. Zbog toga smo odluèili, u povodu stote obljetnice dodjele Nobelove nagrade za književnost, prirediti prigodno izdanje. Podaci koje smo prikupili dolaze iz razlièitih izvora: enciklopedija, leksikona, biografija, predgovora i pogovora samih djela - sve one graðe koja nam je kao knjižnièarima dostupna.
Kao relevantne podatke o autorima (mjesta i datume roðenja, smrti) odabirali smo one koji se najèešæe spominju, odnosno one koje koristi Švedska akademija. I portreti dobitnika Nobelove nagrade u najveæoj su mjeri preuzeti s Interneta (
