25. Pupils Report On Opening Of New Laboratory
David thomson's father, sir george paget thomson, was also a nobel Prizewinner, for demonstrating that electrons experience diffraction.
http://www.surreyad.co.uk/news/14-11-97/news720.html
Pupils report on opening of new laboratory GEORGE Abbot School celebrated the centenary of the discovery of the electron with the opening of a new science laboratory on Tuesday. We invited students at the school to write their own report of the event. Sixth former May Glover Gunn led the team which also included fellow sixth formers Laura Deering and Clare Harrison, and first year GCSE pupils Hadyn Bevan, Chris Jones and James Revell. Here is their report: THE grandson of Sir J. J. Thomson, who discovered the electron 100 years ago, opened the new laboratory which bears his grandfather's name. David Thomson, who was accompanied by his wife Patience, were among the guests, who also included the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Surrey, Prof Patrick Dowling, and the chairman of the Surrey branch of the Institute of Electrical Engineers, Richard Forbes. Guests were also invited to watch pupils demonstrating various scientific experiments. Sir J. J. Thomson was the physicist who changed science forever. The electron is the building block for the universe. In 1906, Thomson received the Nobel Prize for Physics for this amazing discovery. He was largely responsible for making atomic physics a modern science, and could be described as 'the man who split the atom'. David Thomson's father, Sir George Paget Thomson, was also a Nobel Prize winner, for demonstrating that electrons experience diffraction.

    Impacto
