A History of the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research
Foundation of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Medical Research
The KWImF Was Conceived during Germany's
Golden Era of Scientific Development
The opening of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Medical Research (KWImF) was the culmination of years of intensive planning and organizational efforts by Ludolf von Krehl. Krehl was one of the earliest promoters of the integration of discrete disciplines of the natural sciences under the rubric of medical research. Today we may take such an approach for granted, but at the time the KWImF was founded, this was a remarkably novel idea. Perhaps the only comparable institute in the world was the Rockefeller Institute in New York. Certainly, there were none in Germany. The Foundation of the
Kaiser Wilhelm Society
Among the most powerful connections that Ludolf von Krehl relied upon in establishing the KWImF was his relationship with Adolf von Harnack. A theological scholar by training, Harnack was one of Germany's most influential figures for the promotion of natural sciences. In 1910, Harnack had collaborated with Emil Fischer, Walther Nernst and August von Wasserman to establish a new organization dedicated to the service of German society through the advancement of scientific research. Their original proposal for this organization emphasized basic principles for the cooperation of science, industry and government and included the construction of a series of elite research institutes. The proposal underscored the importance of complete research freedom for its members, structurally supported by the award of lifetime contracts to a few carefully chosen research directors.

CANCER NEWSLETTER Home Table Contents Next Previous
Hi, this newsletter covers alternative information on cancer which could help you or others. This is a private undertaking funded by myself and my husband.
I am Joanne Teller, a Navajo woman. I live in the Chinle area. I am in my mid-forties. My clans are Toaheedlinii and I am born for Ashiihi.
I am the woman who authored the red book about skinwalkers and witchcraft.
I am sharing information about my cancer problem and how I am handling it to survive. My Cancer About two years ago I found I had breast cancer. The news was terrible. My husband and I met with a Chinle hospital doctor who detailed what he knew about cancer. We asked questions that might assist us in understanding and possibly fighting what we were confronting, like, how cancer started, in simple terms what was happening to the cell that caused it to be cancerous, etc., that the doctor could not answer well.
He mainly knew what mainstream cancer research was offering along the traditional lines of slash, burn and poison. Slash being the cutting of surgery, the burn of radiation and the poison of chemotherapy. We weren’t satisfied with the answers but I scheduled for a biopsy.
Meanwhile, I began drinking a Navajo anti-cancer herb drink. The doctor didn’t seem to like I was taking the drink. After the biopsy the lab report indicated my breast lump was cancerous. I scheduled a meeting with the top cancer doctor at the Flagstaff Medical Center cancer clinic. In Flagstaff we received almost the same information that the Chinle doctor had given. Nothing new.

Comentario editorial
Historia del Premio Nobel
1931 Otto Heinrich Warburg. Alemania. Kaiser-Wilhelm-Institut (Actualmente Max-Planck-Institut) für Biologie Berlin-Dahlem, Alemania. 1883-1970.

1932 Sir Charles Scott Sherrington.
