Only the fourth pianist to have been so honored, the Gilmore Artist Award is made to an exceptional pianist who, regardless of age or nationality, possesses broad and profound musicianship and charisma and who desires and can sustain a career as a major international concert artist. In 2002-03, Mr. Anderszewski is scheduled to make his debuts with the orchestras of Atlanta, Cincinnati, Montreal, and Oregon and he will also perform in recital in San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver, and at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Highlights of his 2002-03 season in Europe include performances with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, the Camerata Salzburg, and the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, and recitals in Paris, Vienna, Hamburg and Budapest as well as throughout Italy and the UK. and Le Choc Monde de la Musique in France and is receiving major critical recognition in the UK and the US. His latest release for Virgin is a disc of Mozart piano concerti with the Sinfonia Varsovia featuring Anderszewski as both player and director. Future recording plans include a solo Bach disc of the first, third and sixth Partitas.

Anderszewski began to study piano at the age of six and subsequently attended conservatories in Lyon and Strasbourg, the Academy of Music in Warsaw, and the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He further honed his skills in Italy, in a series of master classes lead by Fou Ts'ong, Murray Perahi, and Leon Fleisher. His execution of the 33 DIABELLI VARIATIONS IN C-MAJOR by Ludwig van Beethoven at the INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION IN LEEDS in 1990 opened the door to his professional debut at Wigmore Hall in London, and subsequently to an international career. Anderszewski has given concerts in England (with the ROYAL PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA and the LONDON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA ), Ireland, Germany (series of Beethoven concerts with the MÜNCHENER PHILHARMONIKER in 1996), France, Austria, Portugal, Italy, and in Poland. Piotr Anderszewski is among the most compelling of the current generation of pianists. Mr. Anderszewski began playing the piano at the age of six and studied at the Lyon and Strasbourg Conservatories, the University of Southern California and the Chopin Academy in Warsaw. A recital featuring Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations at London’s Wigmore Hall in February 1991 launched his international career. Since then, Anderszewski performs regularly in the major European recital halls including Wigmore, Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Theatre des Champs Elysees and Theatre de la Ville in Paris and the Musikverein in Vienna, and at such high profile festivals as Bergen, Cheltenham, La Roque d’Antheron and Edinburgh.
Mr. Anderszewski’s orchestral engagements have included performances with the London Philharmonic, London Symphony, Philharmonia and City of Birmingham Symphony in the UK; the Munich, Rotterdam and Warsaw Philharmonics; and most recently the Vienna Radio Symphony, Radio France’s Orchestre National in Paris and the Australian Chamber Orchestra. Among the conductors with whom he has worked are Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos, Markus Stenz, Claus Peter Flor, Stanislaw Skrowaczewski, Christopher Hogwood and Charles Dutoit.
