(Philadelphia, February 25, 2003)
Mozart's music has inspired and enriched the lives of scientists, writers, artists, composers, and general listeners the world over. Albert Einstein regarded Mozart as "the greatest composer of all." "The music of Mozart is of such purity and beauty that one feels he merely 'found' it," Einstein said, "that it has always existed as part of the inner beauty of the universe waiting to be revealed." With its classical balance of both colorful lightness and profound depth, Mozart's music, to many people, conveys a sense of well-being. "Mozart is happiness before it has gotten defined," said playwright Arthur Miller.
Six Performances
The Philadelphia Orchestra's 2003 Absolutely Mozart Festival features five evening performances and one afternoon matinee, June 26-July 2, in Verizon Hall at The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. The three programs feature a range of Mozart's work, from intimate chamber music to symphonic masterpieces. Absolutely Mozart 2003 opens with the Quintet in E-flat major, K. 452, for piano and winds, considered by Mozart himself to be "the best thing" he'd ever written. The first evening's program also features Emanuel Ax performing the Piano Concerto No. 17 in G major, K. 453, and closes with the Symphony No. 40.

A Winning Combination Violinist Midori, pianist Emanuel Ax, and cellist Yo-Yo Ma, responding to an enthusiastic welcome in Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory’s Grace Auditorium. hat happens when you mix three of the world’s most celebrated classical musicians, cuisine prepared by three of New York’s master chefs, and a packed auditorium of supporters of science? Great chemistry, particularly when the musicians are pianist Emanuel Ax, violinist Midori, and cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and the event is a gala to benefit the Watson School of Biological Sciences. The concert and dinner, held October 5 in Grace Auditorium, were a spectacular success, and raised more than $750,000 for the new Watson School.

Music Worcester to offer varied season
Thursday, June 13, 2002 By Richard Duckett
WORCESTER Renowned soloists such as pianist Emanuel Ax and violinist Midori, orchestras from the United States and around the world, trios, jazz ensembles, folk dance from Georgia (the Eastern country, that is), and tango are some of the varied highlights of the 2002-2003 concert season announced by Music Worcester Inc.
All told, the schedule features 21 concerts from Oct. 16 to May 31.
The Boston Philharmonic Orchestra will open the 143rd Worcester Music Festival Oct. 16, and other visiting orchestras include the Brazilian Orquesta de Sao Paulo, the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland.
On the local front, the Worcester Chorus will be busy with four concerts, including the traditional annual presentation (actually the 103rd) of Handel's Messiah.
In addition to the daring and beautiful dance of the Georgian State Dance Company, feet may well be set tapping by the visit of Tango Buenos Aires.
The schedule is as follows:
Oct. 16: The Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of renowned conductor Benjamin Zander, will perform Mozart's Overture from The Marriage of Figaro, Dvorak's Concerto for Cello in A minor, and Schubert's Symphony No. 9 in C Major. Guest cellist will be Alexander Baillie.

Sunday, May 20, 2001 Young pianist lives up to promise Concert shows Wallick's talent

For Tristate music lovers, the possibilities are endless this time of year. In recent weeks, I have heard some exceptional performances. Hamiltonians have good reason to be proud of their star pianist, Bryan Wallick. The 22-year-old made his Cincinnati recital debut on May 3 in the Scottish Rite Auditorium, downtown, concluding the 90th anniversary season of Matinee Musicale. Clearly a young man on the way up, Mr. Wallick showed that he has the technique, sensitivity and poise for a concert career.
