Debussy: Douze Etudes pour piano. Boulez: Sonate Nr. 2

Biography
Maurizio Pollini: concert at the Tonhalle Zurich, February 16, 2000
Debussy: Douze Etudes pour piano. Boulez: Sonate Nr. 2
I already tried so see Maurizio Pollini live three times in my life. All three times the concert was cancelled due to the artists's health problems. The same happened in January. On February 16, my chance came to see him. But then, the locomotive of the train bringing me to Zurich broke down. A delay became unavoidable. I had to change to another train. Arriving in Zurch, it had begun to snow. After a record sprint to the Tonhalle, Pollini had already started playing. He is a very sensitive pianist so I had to wait behind closed doors and listen from there to his rendition of the First Book of Debussy's Twelve Etudes for Piano . He just had started with part IV In sixths . After the First Book , the public applauded him generously and gave me the chance to slip unnoticed into the concert hall.
Debussy's Twelve Etudes for Piano from 1915 mark a new beginning in the work of the French composer. They were the product of a creative phase following months of crisis and silence beginning with the outbreak of the First World War. His study of Chopin's

45. Martha Argerich
that the name comes from the Argentineborn pianist Martha Argerich in Europe withFriedrich Gulda, Nikita Magaloff, arturo benedetti michelangeli, among others
http://urlizer.com/00/1476
What is Argerich?
Many people have asked me why the computer in my office is named "argerich" (full name argerich.colorado.edu). That's a long story that I won't get into here, but I will say that the name comes from the Argentine-born pianist Martha Argerich who is pictured above. Martha Argerich was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1941, and gave her first public performance at the age of 8 (some sources say 5). She studied in Europe with Friedrich Gulda, Nikita Magaloff, Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, among others, and gave her debut recital in 1960 (a recording of this recital has recently been re-released by DG.) Some of my other favorite living pianists include Grigory Sokolov Helene Grimaud Radu Lupu , and Olli Mustonen. For sheer technical virtuosity no one can match the young Marc-Andre Hamelin . My most recent discovery is Eliso Virsaladze (thanks to BMG/Melodiya's Russian Piano School series). My favorite historical pianists change with time: right now, the list is headed by Sviatoslav Richter Emil Gilels , Arthur Rubenstein, Dinu Lipatti, Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli , and Julius Katchen. Next year it will probably be different.

47. WHRB January And February 2000
The Italian pianist arturo benedetti michelangeli (19201995) was one ofthe most enigmatic and reclusive musical figures of this century.
http://www.whrb.org/pg/JanFeb2000.html
Monday, January 3 Born in Brooklyn in 1900, Arthur Schwartz spent several years practicing law before writing his first hit, "I Guess I’ll Have To Change My Plan," in 1929. Along with lyricist Howard Dietz, Schwartz wrote the scores for some of the greatest revues of the 1930s, including The Band Wagon (containing the classic "Dancing in the Dark"). One of Schwartz’s best-known songs, "That’s Entertainment," was written for the movie version. After the war, Schwarz teamed with lyricist Dorothy Fields to create his finest book musical, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn WHRB presents music that is unfamiliar, adventurous, and perhaps a bit daring, but always worth listening to. But what about the pieces you don’t normally hear on WHRB (or anywhere else, for that matter)? This orgy examines the dregs of the musical world; those pieces that, for whatever reason, are not in possession of "The Right Stuff." We examine three realms of Marginality: Humor, Pretentious Modernity, and Lousy Arrangements. Born in 1875, Mikolajus Ciurlionis is Lithuania’s leading classical composer. Several years before his premature death from pneumonia in 1911, Ciurlionis abandoned composition for painting, creating cycles of visionary canvases with titles like "Sonata of the Sun." Ciurlionis’ musical output, while not large, fuses folk and mystical elements in a highly individual manner. The orgy will feature performances by pianists Mûza Rubackyté (Marco Polo) and Vytautas Landsbergis (EMI), the Vilnius String Quartet (MCA Classics), and Vladimir Fedoseyev and the USSR Radio Television Orchestra (Chant du Monde).

On September 20, 1943 he married Giuliana Guidetti, whom he had met in Brescia, and who had later been a pupil of his. She was a valued counselor and secretary to her husband. She used to live quietly, sharing time together at their villa in Bornato, near Brescia, or in Bolzano or Arezzo, and almost never appeared in public together with her husband, so that nearly nobody knew that Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli was married. From 1970 on, his secretary Marie-Jos¨¦ Gros-Dubois, twenty years younger than him, was faithfully near his side.

Would you still sign a record contract with a major label? Yes, it's a very important thing for a good musical career to sign a record contract with a musical label, for me with a label of classical music. Band History: Currently he dedicates his studies to the deepening on the J.S.Bach's keyboard music. The famous concert pianist and composer Rami Bar-Niv, one of Israel's most acclaimed and sought after pianists, said (commenting the Stella's performance of Allemande from French Suite II): "Excellent playing, I am very impressed. Clean, precise, not too dry, nice phrasing and sensitive. Great job."
