PETERSBURGH SUN-SENTINEL COMPOSER Roger Briggs' music has been consistently praised through out the world as some of the most compelling, imaginati CONDUCTOR Roger Briggs is currently the Artistic Director of the Whatcom Symphony Orchestra in Bellingham, Washington and has held that position since 1996. He has conducted and recorded with the London Symphony, the Czech Radio Symphony and the Prague Symphony. In addition to standard orchestral repertoire, Mr. Briggs is equally at home with contemporary scores-both orchestral and chamber. He founded the Michiana New Music Ensemble in South Bend, IN, the Contemporary Chamber Players at Western Washington University and the Whatcom Symphony Chamber Orchestra in Bellingham, WA. He has also guest conducted other established contemporary ensembles like The New Performance Group/Sonora, Zephyr, and Fear No Music. BACKGROUND Roger Briggs was born in 1952 in Florence, Alabama. He began piano studies when he was eight. By age 11 he was seriously composing and performing. At age 15, he was conducting and arranging for high school productions and private performances. By the time he had graduated from high school, he had played in, conducted, and written for numerous ensembles including Jazz Bands, Rock Bands and Orchestras. He was also an active classical pianist-both solo and chamber.

The Band Michael Olson Michael has studied with many world-renowned hand drummers and percussionists: Dumi Mariase from Zimbabwe, Obo Addy of Ghana and Haitian and Cuban drumming with John Amira. His more extensive studies of Cuban music include lessons and workshops with Don Gimmell, Michael Spiro, Roberto Burrell, Jesus Alfonso and Brazil Mystro Accordion. Olson has recorded with Obrador, Bert Wilson, Marc Smason and Allen Youngblood. His performance career includes such diverse groups as Obrador, Ocho Pies and The Mud Bay Jugglers. In the 20 plus years of on stage experience he has crossed paths and shared gigs with greats such as Slim Gaillord, Charles Mingus, Don Cherry, Bobby McFerin, Collin Walcott, Jack DeJohnette, Dizzy Gillespie and George Benson as well as Barbera Donald, Joe Baque, Tony Lujan and Scott Cossu. An international act, Michael has performed in festivals, at colleges and clubs from Canada to Puerto Rico, Cuba, Mexico and the United States. Some of his credits include: DuMaurier in Vancouver, B.C.; Bumpershoot, Seattle, WA; Elliott Bay Festival, Bellevue, WA; and the University of Havana in Cuba. Connie Bunyer Ms. Bunyer comes from a family of musicians; old time, swing, bluegrass, polka, pop and church modes were her childhood influences. Later, she took to the stage in musicals and dramas and eventually studies in classical voice, clarinet and guitar. Inspired by polyrhythms and composition her search for musical diversity led her to the music of Africa and the Caribbean. She has studied drumming, dance and songs with John Amira, Kobla Ladzekpo, Dzigzogbe Lawluvi, Tomasa Eckert, Obo Addy and SoVoSo, members of Bobby McFerrin's Voice-chestra.
