News Campus Events Wells Speeches Wells on the Op-Ed Pages Campus Events: October, 1996 Tuesday, October 1 Contiguglia Brothers to Perform at Wells College On Tuesday, October 1, duo-pianists Richard and John Contiguglia, Auburn natives and identical twins who have collaborated since they were five years old, will present a lecture and sampling of their music at Wells College in the Alice Barler Recital Hall at 7:00 pm. The event is free and open to the public. They will also be giving a master lesson for Wells College piano students and anyone else who is interested at 8:30 am on Tuesday, October 1. Sharing what many have termed the "ultimate partnership in music" for their unconscious bond as identical twins, the brothers are recognized as one of today's most brilliant piano duos. They have performed with major orchestras throughout the world, including the Atlanta Symphony, the Baltimore Symphony, the Cleveland Orchestra, and the Rotterdam Philharmonic. They have also given recitals at several prestigious locations, including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New Tork City, the Kennedy Center in Washington, and the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. Summa sum laude and Phi Beta Kappa graduates of Yale University and honor graduates of the Yale School of Music, Richard and John Contiguglia studied in London with the legendary British pianist Dame Myra Hess. They are noted for discovering, performing, and recording many unusual or forgotten works for the duo-piano repertoire, including music of Bartok, Liszt, and Gershwin.

Internet Resources Search Site: All Any 1997-98 Faculty Accomplishments Featured Link: • Meet the Faculty • (Activities Announced at Faculty Meetings, May, 1997 - April, 1998) CHRISTOPHER BAILEY attended the 11th National Conference on Undergraduate Research, held April 24-26, 1997, at the University of Texas at Austin. Also representing Wells were five students who presented the results of their faculty-sponsored undergraduate research projects. Those students were Katherine Ehrlich, who worked under the direction of Professor Purdy; Robyn Greener, whose research was performed with Professors Schwab and Flowers; Jennifer Kappeller, who worked with Professor Collmer; Melissa Miller, who also worked with Professor Schwab; and Tuesday Tamburri, who worked with Professor Miller-Bernal. Professor Bailey's paper, "The Effect of a Covalently Attached Synergistic Anion on Chelator-Mediated Iron-Release from Ovotransferrin: Additional Evidence for Two Concurrent Pathways," was published in the August 19, 1997, issue of BIOCHEMISTRY. This paper resulted from research performed in collaboration with Wells College undergraduates. Several of these former students were co-authors on the paper. Professor Bailey was accepted in the Materials Science Workshop for College and High School Chemistry Faculty held at Cornell University on October 18.
