September 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th, 2002.
As I recently reviewed the archives of the Penkhull Festival I found that most of the superlative adjectives had already been used in descriptions of the quality, presentation and diversity of this singular event. We have now reached the 36th Penkhull Festival and can record an A+ for endurance. This year’s programme is varied, as ever, and is well balanced with a young chamber trio, the Ondine Piano Trio which opens the Festival with the unmistakable genius from Beethoven, Ravel and Schubert. We are fortunate to be present at the early days of this young chamber group who are gaining accelerated international recognition.
Yoshiko Endo (larger photo) James Bowman, ever fresh, ever young, ever generously dedicating his talents to the Penkhull Festival, will bring his unique counter tenor tone in groups of lieder and will include Purcell’s “Welcome to all the Pleasures” accompanied by the Bedford Singers and the Liebeck Strings.
