    Paul Badura-Skoda
"His innate virtuosity enabled the passion in his playing to rise further than one could have imagined possible. A true master of his craft."
    Leipziger Volkerzeitung
"A wonderful consistency in the art of piano playing, in which clarity of fingerwork establishes complete rhythmic supremacy and throws into relief all those inner colourings so important to express the meaning of great music. Sam Haywood's performances are as fine "live" as they sound on CD. Take Chopin's Funeral March Sonata and Scherzo No 1, or Liszt's monumental B minor Sonata - their span is heroic as well as poetic, but never hackneyed in these readings. Every piece is treated to thorough re-examination and research - surely what music-making is all about."
