66. Richard And John CONTIGUGLIA, Duo Pianists - Biography
Subsequently, they studied the duo repertoire for four years with the legendaryBritish pianist, dame myra hess, who prepared them for their important London
http://www.duopianistscontiguglia.com/bio.htm
R ichard and John Contiguglia are identical twins who have collaborated as a piano duo since they were five years old. Throughout their career critics have responded in superlatives to their unique musical partnership. Following the release of their historic recording of Beethoven's 9th Symphony, transcribed for two pianos by Franz Liszt, now a collector's item, critic Edward Tatnall Canby called the Contiguglias "the most profoundly musical pair of piano virtuosi of this century." Records and Recording proclaimed that "they have given the two-piano medium a whole new dimension. The Contiguglias stand apart in a lofty world of their own, unrivaled and supreme." Byron Belt, for Newhouse News Service, called the Contiguglias "foremost among today's duo-pianists." Richard and John were born of Italian immigrant parents in Auburn, NY, the last children, and second set of twins, in a family of seven children. Without a doubt, the most extraordinary musical event of the twins' youth was a performance in their home town, when they were 12 years old, of a group of two-piano pieces in the middle of a solo-piano recital by the legendary pianist-composer, Percy Grainger. Trio Contraste

Andrew
Cooperstock pianist
Trio Contraste arrived on the concert scene in 1992 and since that time has developed a devoted following across the United States and in Europe. Established by three successful solo artists with international careers individually, the group takes great pleasure in presenting the unusual and exciting works composed for the unique instrumentation created when these musicians come together. In recent years the ensemble has performed concerts in such varied venues as Nice, Brussels, the Hague, Riga, Houston, Tulsa, and Detroit
As the name suggests, Trio Contraste is noteworthy for its variety of sounds as well as its variety of repertoire. Violinist William Terwilliger, clarinetist Martha MacDonald, and pianist Andrew Cooperstock represent three complementary instrumental families and, when performing such works as Igor Stravinsky's L'Histoire du soldat , actually create an "orchestral" sound. Other works championed by the Trio are Darius Milhaud's Suite,Charles Ives' Largo, Paul Schoenfield's Trio , and, of course, Bart?k's Contrasts

SOLO PIANISTS
"Artur, you will never be a pianist. You are a musician." These prophetic words were uttered by the legendary early 20th century teacher, Theodor Leschetizky, to his young student, Artur Schnabel. "In later years, Schnabel took special delight in repeating Leschetizky's prophecy as a paradox, because he himself could never make any distinction between pianist and musician, even for his pupils. And, in his own case, the musician and the pianist were completely fused - though the pianist remained always the servant of the musician."*

CLIPPER ERIKSON
P i a n i s t

Clipper Erickson began his performing career at the age of 19, winning the Young Musicians Foundation competition in Los Angeles, where a Los Angeles Times reviewer wrote, He played with extraordinary dash and power and never let flamboyance obscure art.
He has continued to thrill audiences since, being described recently as a true heroic pianist by the Washington Post. Of his second CD, American Journey, American Record Guide wrote: A delightful disc..Clipper Erickson’s playing has a winning vitality and exuberance...fresh and youthful.
After a performance at the Spoleto Festival, the Charleston News and Courier wrote: It takes a pianist of almost divine power to render this sort of music in intelligible form to an audience. Erickson was just such a pianist.
Featured in distinguished venues throughout the US, Mr. Erickson has appeared in recital on series such as Chicago’s Dame Myra Hess, Boston’s Gardner Museum, and the Kennedy Center and Philips Collection in Washington. He has appeared as soloist with symphonies both nationally and internationally. SYMPHONY CONCERTMASTER MICHAEL FOXMAN AND PIANIST JANET GUGGENHEIM

Portland, Ore. ... Violinist Michael Foxman and pianist Janet Guggenheim will present an evening of traditional chamber music in “Chamber Music on Tap,” Wednesday, April 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at BridgePort Brew Pub (1313 N.W. Marshall St., Portland). Chamber Music on Tap, sponsored by BridgePort Brewing Company, is presented by Fortissimo, an Oregon Symphony volunteer organization.
Foxman, concertmaster for the Oregon Symphony since 1973, is widely acclaimed for his ability to play with technical expertise and with great emotion; of a recent performance with the Oregon Symphony, music critic Nora Beck wrote: “[Foxman] asserted his presence from the outset, his left hand moving across the fingerboard as if gently dusting a favorite family portrait” (The Oregonian). Guggenheim, an accomplished pianist who resides in Portland and performs world-wide, is perhaps best known for her work accompanying the legendary Itzhak Perlman, captured in the Emmy award-winning video, “Perlman in Russia.” Guggenheim also accompanied Perlman in his recent recital tour which included performances in Portland, San Francisco and Las Vegas, where one reviewer wrote: “Guggenheim substituted nobly for a full orchestra with dramatic cascades and complex movements…” (Las Vegas Review Journal).
