Leermeester Bach Door Peter Louwerse Ivo Janssen ’JS Bach, Inventions, Preludes, Symphonies’ VOID 70.43 min. Componeren was in de tijd van Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 1750) vooral een vorm van wetenschap. Niet de inspiratie, maar kennis op basis van veel studie was daarvoor de belangrijkste voorwaarde. Zelf heeft Bach het vak onder de knie gekregen door de muziek van zijn Duitse en Italiaanse voorgangers te kopiëren. Als pedagoog/componist schreef hij op zijn beurt talrijke werken die bedoeld waren om zijn eigen vakkennis door te geven aan zijn leerlingen. Met de tweestemmige inventies, driestemmige sinfonia’s en preludes wilde Bach zijn leerlingen twee dingen onderwijzen: klavier spelen, maar ook componeren. De Nederlandse pianist Ivo Janssen heeft de werkjes, alle afkomstig uit het Klavierbchlein, uitgebracht op cd. Janssen (geboren in 1963) is sinds 1994 bezig om alle klavierwerken van J.S. Bach uit te voeren en op de plaat te zetten. Om deze ambitieuze klus tot een goed einde te brengen, startte Janssen zijn eigen cd label VOID. Bach toont zich in inventies, driestemmige sinfonia’s en preludes geen strenge meester.

But we have filled our world with complex technical systems =3D=3D on top of the natural systems that were already here, and social/cultural ones that evolved over thousands of years =3D=3D without thinking much about the consequences. Some of these consequences, as a result, include environmental decline and poor social quality. So we need to start thinking proactively about the design of complex systems and flows =3D=3D particularly as we pervade the world with smart systems and ambient intelligence.

On finding this disc in the mail, my first reaction was a stoical, "Well, someone must review discs by saxophone quartets." But the disc has made for pleasing listening on several different occasions.....( )....While some may reasonably wish to hear the quartets of Debussy, Ravel and Roussel played only in their original versions, others may, like me, find the warm expressiveness of the saxophones a welcome and interesting change. The young Netherlanders who have played as the ASQ since 1982 are certainly fine musicians and have been generous in presenting three rather than the usual two quartets. Recommended. Next Top of page (Newsletter, 1991, on French music for saxophone quartet).... The sound of the ASQ is even richer than (xxx). The imaging is better, as well - try the Bozza piece, for example - the sense of space around each player is splendid. The ensemblework is perfect and the ensemble sound is delicious. Also, the Aurelias seem to have more emotional investment in the music....( )...Listeners who don't give serious thought to saxophone quartet music (I used to be one) should hear the Aurelia disc.
