"Valentina Lisitsa, Piano; Sergei Nakariakov, Trumpet"
A litany of accolades in the American Press from the New York Times to the San Francisco Chronicle followed their twelfth North American tour last season. One American critic called the Prague Chamber Orchestra "a remarkably well-disciplined, excellent body of musicians in which each musician is a maestro." This world- renowned, 36-member ensemble begins its 1998 U.S. tour at The January Series with a repertoire ranging from baroque to today's leading composers. The Orchestra plays without a conductor, sustained instead by the superb musicianship of each player, unique in their exquisite precision, intonation, and balance. Two outstanding Russian soloists, the stunning pianist, Valentina Lisitsa, and the brilliant trumpeter, Sergei Nakariakov, complement this remarkable orchestra in its first appearance in West Michigan.

Society of concerts Four encores for Lisitsa
A singular mixing of grace and mysterious power has enlightened the Verdi Hall the other evening: performing a very acclaimed recital, Valentina Lisitsa returned to the stage of the Conservatory, as guest (and already a darling) of the Concerts Society. The very blond Ukrainian pianist, born 1971, is one of today's most coveted "starlets" in the main international circuit and, consequently, also in this Milanese series, which is always sensible (and lucky) in picking up at birth many talent of the future (for the "Society" they have debuted almost still unknown, soloists like Bunin, Vengerov or Kissin). The musical balance of this charming artist was shown in a musical itinerary made with vivid contrasts.
To a refined chiselling ot the Sonata n.52 of Haydn followed her sumptuous vision of the Etudes Symphoniques of Schumann; to an inner, restrained song, flowing from four Lisztian transcriptions of Schubert's Lieder, have answered the dream and the Mediterranean fire of the Spanish Rhapsody by Liszt: it was a kind of prelude to a rightful explosion of ovations and to four rewarding encores.

Russian pianist Valentina Lisitsa and her husband Alexei Kuznetsoff virtually exploded onto the American musical scene in their formal U.S. Debut in Chicago. Their performance gamered the following praise from the Chicago Tribune's music critic, John von Rhein: "... I cannot recall when I have heard a more exciting or more accomplished two-piano team. They have the colossal technique and temperament you associate with pianists of the Russian school; they also have a virtually flawless ensemble, the kind most duos take years to achieve, if they are ever so fortunate." The couple combined their formidable talents and began working as a team with the revered Dr. Ludmilla Tsvierko in Kiev, under whose tutelage, the duo won prizes in the Concertino Prague, the Lysenko Piano Competition, the Paris Chamber Music Competition and the Ukrainian Chamber Music Competition as well as first prize in the 1991 Murray Dranoff Two-Piano Competition in Miami. Dynamic Duo Valentina Lisitsa and Alexei Kuznetsoff Debut at Weill Recital Hall, Tuesday, December 17, 8 pm
New York, NY - The keyboard duo of Valentina Lisitsa and Alexei Kuznetsoff makes its Weill Recital Hall debut on Tuesday, December 17, at 8 pm. The husband and wife pair will exhibit its fiery pianism with two works by Schubert: in G minor for piano duet, Op. 54, and Fantasy in F minor for piano duet, Op. 103. Additionally, Ms. Lisitsa, who is making her Weill Recital Hall solo debut, will interpret 24 Chopin Etudes from Op. 10 and Op. 25.
Pianists Valentina Lisitsa and Alexei Kuznetsoff virtually exploded onto the American music scene in their formal United States debut in Chicago. This young piano-duo has garnered several competition prizes in its native Ukraine and continues to win critical acclaim in the United States as well. By the time Lisitsa and Kuznetsoff met at the Kiev Conservatory, they were both winners of numerous international, national, and local solo and chamber music competitions. They combined their talents and began working as a two-piano team with Ludmilla Tsvierko. In 1990, after only a few weeks of preparation, Lisitsa and Kuznetsoff captured first prize at the Ukrainian Chamber Music Competition. In 1991 the duo won first prize in the Third International Murray Dranoff Two Piano Competition. Shortly after their victory, Lisitsa and Kuznetsoff made their home in the United States and recently became American citizens.
