    Valentina Lisitsa, Piano
    Appearances: April 12th and 13th, 2003
The incomparable talents of pianist Valentina Lisitsa have been recognized in glowing reviews as a "gigantic talent" and as "the kind of talent that comes along once in a generation." A recent performance of the Rachmaninoff Second Piano Concerto at Grant Park Festival in Chicago was described by Chicago Sun-Times as "jaw-dropping."
Ms. Lisitsa is capturing the attention of audiences throughout the world for her stunning virtuosity and unequaled sense of lyricism. Widely known and respected as a duo-pianist alongside her husband Alexei Kuznetsoff, she brings to the concert stage a rare technical mastery combined with deep understanding of musical inner life.
Born in Kiev, Ms. Lisitsa presented her first solo recital at the age of six. A graduate of the famed Kiev Conservatory, she has won numerous international prizes. Since making her New York debut in 1995 at the Mostly Mozart Festival at the Lincoln Center with Gerard Schwartz conducting, she has maintained an active schedule world-wide in recital and with orchestras, including a U.S. tour with the Orchestre National de France under Charles Dutoit in 1996 performing among other places in New York and Boston. She has also performed in a 30-performance tour with the Prague Chamber Orchestra in 1998.
Because of her limitless repertoire and readiness to perform it at any time, Ms. Lisitsa chooses selections during the concert for the utmost enjoyment of the audiences. In November of 1998, she performed with the Indianapolis Symphony under Raymond Leppard on five days' notice, learning two new concerti (

    Dear Friends,
The fourth edition of our acclaimed Piano Series has it all: a recital by one of the most renowned pianists in the world today; a duo-piano program by two incandescent young artists who have rekindled an avid interest in this fascinating corner of the keyboard repertory; the San Diego recital debut of the young Ukrainian pianist whose SummerFest performance last August made an indelible impression; and last but certainly not least, an American piano legend whose concert appearances are eagerly awaited by both audiences and professional musicians around the globe. Emanuel Ax is surely one of the most highly regarded and in-demand pianists in the world. His performances of the great cornerstones of the solo keyboard repertory command the highest accolades, and his devotion to the towering classical masterworks is matched by a fervent dedication to performing new works by today's most important composers. Duo-pianists Valentina Lisitsa and Alexei Kuznetsoff are, quite simply, the hottest item on the current concert scene. Catapulted to international prominence by their blazing, competition-winning performance at the 1991 Dranoff Two-Piano competition in Miami, they have left audiences cheering for more in every city where they have played.
