Lucie Renaud of Montreal's La Scena Musicale calls Minthorn "quite unique...a Busoni-like composer-pianist, gifted with a light touch, capable of distancing himself from his own compositions and simply performing them... This is music to win the hearts of even the most hardened contemporary music haters!" The Toronto Star says Minthorn's music is "very successful", describing his music as "flavoured by the impressionistic style of Debussy and Ravel with some jazzy bits neatly woven in". Richard Todd of The Ottawa Citizen calls Tidal Storm (Timothy's debut piano CD) one of "10 Canadian discs worth listening to... featuring music that is substantial, without making unusual demands on the listener" Tidal Storm
