Founded by The Lord Chief Justice Lord Woolf, who is an Honorary President of the UJIA, and others, the group has hosted a series of fundraising events including a series of high profile Gala Concerts with internationally renowned musicians.
The Bench and Bar Committee is headed up by Lord Justice Simon Brown (President), Clive Freedman QC and Peter Roth QC (Co-Chairmen).
The Taylor Fellowship

Featuring the renowned pianist Murray Perahia, the event at Middle Temple Hall raised £40,000 towards a special music therapy project in Israel in memory of the former Lord Chief Justice Lord Taylor and his late wife.
The funds raised will help establish a music therapy clinic within the David Yellin Teacher’s College in Jerusalem, and will support a music therapy Fellowship programme at the college. The Taylor Fellowships are awarded every two years to an outstanding graduate of music therapy to enable them to provide music therapy to disadvantaged children at the Neve Amiel Youth Village in Northern Israel.
Lord Taylor, who chaired the inquiry into the Hillsborough disaster, was himself an accomplished pianist, and the late Lady Taylor was an enthusiastic advocate of music therapy.

Murray Perahia's other orchestral engagements in the 2001-02 season include performances of all five Beethoven Concertos with the Israel Philharmonic and Zubin Mehta, and with the Philadelphia and Philharmonia Orchestras, both conducted by Wolfgang Sawallisch. His recital schedule includes appearances at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Orchestra Hall in Chicago, and in Los Angeles, Berkeley, Vancouver, Paris, London, Hong Kong, Seoul, and Singapore. In 1972 Mr. Perahia won the Leeds International Piano Competition. In 1973 he gave his first concert at the Aldeburgh Festival, where he worked closely with Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears; Mr. Perahia was co-artistic director of the Festival from 1981 to 1989.
Was war geschehen?

The first thing one notices about Murray Perahia's latest recording of Bach Keyboard Concertos is the brisk tempo, the ebullient phrasing, and rhythmically incisive orchestral playing that carries the listener along from note to note in breathless anticipation. At the helm of the impeccable Academy of St. Martins in the Field, Murray Perahia's conducting skills are as impressively arrayed here as his keyboard virtuosity. Which brings us to the second thing: Murray Perahia as soloist, and the dawning awareness that we may quite possibly be hearing the greatest Bach interpreter of our day. Both as piano soloist and conductor, Perahia deals elegantly with issues of balance that inevitably arise when performing early music on modern instruments. Concertos written for harpsichord take on a very different texture when played on a modern concert grand; the ringing tone and sheer volume of the piano can easily dominate the strings in ways not envisioned by the composer. But in these performances the relationship of strings to keyboard solo has been deftly re-calibrated. The piano and orchestra become equal partners, parts of an integrated whole, woven together as seamlessly as if this were chamber music.

Not since the decades-old Shostakovich cycle by the Borodin String Quartet have we heard such a well-played, emotion-packed performance of the composer's complete string quartets. But the Emersons somehow outdo all other Shostakovich cycles available with this thoughtful and warm recording, capturing all the power, irony, and angst that Shostakovich infused in these pieces.
