41. The Site Of Natalie Tsaldarakis, Pianist
as a soloist in important master classes by J. Tocco, American pianist and competitionadjudicator, and L. Dedova (first teacher of ivo pogorelich).
http://aim-edu.com/index1.html
Natalie Tsaldarakis, pianist Natalie Tsaldarakis was born in Stockholm, Sweeden. She began her music studies first in Italy and then, later on in Athens, Greece at the Hellinikon Conservatory. Her studies continued under soloist and pedagogue Dimitri Toufexis and other notable Julliard graduates, such as Danae Kara, Dr. Bedford and Dr. McHugh. All had the priviledge to transmit their love of beautiful tone and contemporary music, that was first instilled in them by the renowned William Masselos (himself the protege of Copland).
Her studies lead to the award of a B.A. in Music from the American College of Greece with distinction, an Artist Diploma in Piano Performance also with distinction from the Polymnios Conservatory (class of D. Toufexis) and a Master of Music from the State University of Pennsylvania in West Chester (the birth place of another major composer, S. Barber). While studying at the Master's level, she held the positions of teaching assistant to the Keyboard Dept. (assistant to Prof. Schieck, pupil of the great Leschetitsky and author of a book on the teaching method of his master) and the Music Pedagogy Dept. Upon graduation, she was invited to membership by the National Honor Music Society PKL.

Orchestra visit promises inspiring East-meets-West experience
By MATTHEW ZUCKERMAN, Special to The Asahi Shimbun Although the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) has only recently come to be regarded as one of the world's leading orchestras, it has a long and distinguished history, dating back to its founding in 1920. Created through the efforts of future Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain and a group of civic-minded citizens, the CBSO became the first symphony orchestra in England to be funded by a local authority. Its first year's budget was 1,240 pond, or about 240,000 yen by present exchange rates, not a lot even in those distant days. Since then, the budget has risen somewhat, and when its present-day home in Birmingham Symphony Hall opened in 1991, it became host to one of the finest concert halls in the world. The orchestra will be visiting some fine concert halls on the other side of the world later this year, when it visits Japan in a tour that will take in Sapporo, Kyoto, Mie, Natori in Miyagi Prefecture, Nagoya, Kita-Kyushu and Yokohama as well as Tokyo. The orchestra will be under the baton of Sakari Oramo, and features violinist Akiko Suwanai and Vietnamese pianist Dang Thai Son.

Year of basketball: European Cup finally in Tivoli
Tivoli always provided home for basketball and its favourite sons: basketball players of Olimpija. They celebrated their biggest success that year: winning European Cup. That was only a peak of exquisite basketball year.
Basketball players of Olimpija at the european top
European basketball future also in tivoli, …

We do not mean that only the basketball players of Olimpija that later in Europe confirmed their value for a couple of times, but also 2nd European Championship of young basketball players up to 22 years, played successfully in Tivoli, Postojna and Maribor in July. The final match was won by Belorusija after a victory over Italy. Unfortunately, Slovenian basketball players disappointed a little bit with 8th place. At least Boris Gorenc, who was then a member of Olimpija, won a title of the best player on the championship.
…, Where NBA was a guest!
In summer, a rich basketball happening in Ljubljana's sports park was rounded up by a visit of Scottie Pippen, a famous star of NBA team Chicago Bulls. Pippen has along with the opening of outdoor court demonstrated slam dunking over a group of volunteers (President of Republic of Slovenia was even amongst them). However, hearts of "slam dunk" admirers were won by Marko Milic several years ago, when he successfully dunked over a car.

American Piano Classics Leroy Anderson - Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in C major George Gershwin - Second Rhapsody for Piano and Orchestra Louis Moreau Gottschalk - Grand Tarantelle Euday Bowman - 12 th Street Rag Scott Joplin - The Entertainer, Maple Leaf Rag Morton Gould - Interplay (American Concertette for Piano and Orchestra) Stewart Goodyear / William Tritt / Cincinnati Pops Orchestra / Erich Kunzel (Telarc CD 80112) Leroy Anderson is probably most famous for his symphonic lollipops like Sleigh Ride Blue Tango and The Typewriter . In this recording, which features the world premiere recording of his only piano concerto, we are treated to another side of this famous American composer. Ambitious and big-scale, the concerto is brisk, charming and very easy to listen to. The tunes evoke images of the American frontier and the work is generally straightforward. Slow, touching and poignant is the second movement which basks initially in nostalgia and then leads to a more catchy and upbeat rhythm. The last movement is very American and folksy, comfortable and unthreatening. Goodyear, who plays this, is competent but unassuming in his approach. Some might find him a little too reticent and inconspicuous. Nevertheless, this is a worthwhile addition to a collection, especially since it's the only version around. Gershwin's great Second Rhapsody, which has been all but overshadowed by its predecessor, is flawed in parts but curiously satisfying. It is less jazzy than the Rhapsody in Blue but is often more thought-provoking and is more sensuously orchestrated. The melodies are more memorable and there is somehow more ambience, more of that mysterious Gershwin magic. Apparently, Gershwin was quite pleased with the results himself, calling it the best thing he had written in many respects, such as orchestration and form. Again, I find Goodyear a little too recessed although that is probably good for this work.

Music Writer Pianist in his 20s shows feel for music
As the harmonic center of Freddy Kempf's piano recital Tuesday evening descended - C minor to B minor to -B-flat minor - the volume and interpretive intensity kept rising. By the end of the program, which opened the third annual Miami Festival of Discovery, it was easy to understand why there is considerable buzz about this young artist. Kempf, a Londoner just into his 20's experienced a kind of publicity generating godsend when he failed to win the 1998 Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow (he placed third), much to the displeasure of the public and press. As compensation, the pianist became an instant star, with recitals and TV appearances galore in Russia. Intriguingly, Ivo Pogorelich, who gave a dismaying performance in West Palm Beach earlier this month, went through something similar when he was eliminated from the 1980 Chopin Competition in Warsaw. But where Pogorelich went on to become possibly the most self-indulgent, artistically bizarre pianist in history, Kempf gives every indication of being a sensible, distinctive musician.
