In her first album release, 'All the Good Things' (Tenterhook Records), Ruth has written nine songs full of warmth and soulful simplicity. Her sound has an understated funkiness and her songs manage to sound retro and refreshingly modern at the same time. Her inspiration is drawn from the master songwriters: Sting, Stevie Wonder, Steely Dan and James Taylor to name a few.
Ruth has worked extensively, playing saxophone, with the internationally successful pop group 'Morcheeba', touring with them and recording on their latest album 'Charango'. http://www.ruthhammondtrio.com

Jude Binder
by Dr. Linda Sandel
Originally Published in A Woman's View, April 1, 2002 Binder describes hearing the same story, using the same words, from the lips of victims of intimate violence from all socioeconomic levels. And the final story is of the struggle women experience to leave the partners they love who hurt them so terribly. The Batterer: A Psychological Profile , a book by Donald Dutton, Ph.D. and Susan Golant. When they attended a Benedum Foundation meeting on a new program to encourage nonprofit organizations to collaborate on projects across disciplinary lines, Julian and Reese saw an opportunity for a yet another marriage between art and social justice. They approached Binder and she and the Heartwood community quickly adopted the idea. Heartwood in the Hills Celebrates the Creative Spirit Nestled on a ridge in Calhoun County, framed by rolling meadows and forest, the dance and art studios of Heartwood in the Hills blend easily with the surrounding natural beauty. Visitors approaching via the winding uphill drive often catch the sound of music and enthusiastic students on the breezes of an Appalachian spring night. Inside the studios, visitors are treated to a colorful mosaic of arts celebrating the creative spirit.

August 2002
I recently put together a presentation for the Arkadia Music Center that attempted to connect the dots of the African-American musical experience before jazz and before the blues. I always had a passion for history. I sincerely believe if a history is placed in the proper perspective we can better connect with our humanity. Learning about the function of music and its performance practices in the America of the 18th and 19th century can shed some light on how we presently experience music. This past June, I performed selections of Duke Ellington’s Sacred Music with my trio and the Trinity Lutheran Church Choir of Jersey City. Pastor Fred Bryant who is a jazz connoisseur of the highest order inaugurated the Jazz Vespers service a few years ago. Pastor Bryant describes Jazz as “food for the soul” and the service as a way of celebrating God in gifts of “prayer, words and music.” Duke would have liked the pastor’s take, I’m certain. The congregation definitely dug the sounds of the Master Ellington reverberating in the church sanctuary. It was their introduction to a legendary composer’s depth beyond the familiar strains of “Satin Doll” and “Mood Indigo”. With the choir members performing Duke’s sacred music, jazz at once became more of a populist music rather than a music merely being played by the elite. There are a couple of newly-released CD’s on which I’m featured. Kevin Mahogany‘s “

Gary Husband New Trio - Vortex, London, 15/01/03
John Fordham - Saturday January 18, 2003 - The Guardian

Gary Husband had the misfortune to play the Vortex the night after one of its most high-profile events of the year: the gig by guitarist Wolfgang Muthspiel with Marc Johnson and Brian Blade. As a result, the gifted Yorkshire-born pianist and drummer found himself playing to an almost empty house.
Husband's name isn't often included in the A-list of local jazz; and yet almost every one of his rare shows confirms that he deserves a place at the top of that league. With his regular trio of Mick Hutton (bass) and Gene Calderazzo (drums), Husband started this show as if he were playing encores to cheering hordes. Husband plays drums as well as he plays piano, and he plays both brilliantly. He has the ferocity and drama of a rock musician, even though much of his repertoire centres on jazz standards. For his trio gigs, he concentrates on piano, though a drummer's intuition appears everywhere in his timing and rhythm. Often he builds pieces out of the intermingled sounds of the acoustic instrument, an electric keyboard and a synthesiser. Ideas tumble from him, and he rarely repeats himself except for effect.
This performance took in plenty of standard jazz material, but Husband began with a typical ski-run of an original. He mixed springy, straightahead jazz swing with abrupt tempo changes, phrase-swapping with one hand on the piano and the other on the synthesiser, creating electronic textures reminiscent of Joe Zawinul.

In recent years, Dublin has become one of Europe's hottest centres for pop production, and Biffco Productions are one of the top hitmaking teams who've made their home there. Paul Nash Songwriter-producers Richard 'Biff' Stannard and Julian Gallagher and songwriter-engineer Ash Howes have established an impressive client base and track record as a pop production and writing team. Their prolific output includes U2's single 'Elevation', David Gray's 'Sail Away' and 'This Year's Love', Dido's 'No Angel', Charlotte Church's 'Dream A Dream' and tracks from Kylie Minogue's hit albums Light Years and Fever , including new single 'In Your Eyes'. Recent work with Emma Bunton has yielded among other tracks the UK number one hit 'What Took You So Long?', which Biff and Julian produced and co-wrote. The collaboration with Emma Bunton goes back to Biff's Spice Girls days, and he and Julian have also produced and written solo tracks by Melanies C and G, while Ash mixed Geri Halliwell's 'Shake Your Bootie, Cutie'. Biff and Julian produced and co-wrote several tracks on Gabrielle's Rise album and are working on her new album. The team have also had multiple hit singles with Five, including UK number ones 'We Will Rock You' and 'Let's Dance', and the double A side 'Closer To Me'/ 'Rock The Party'.
