A few words about the Son Cubano ......
Throughout the 19th century, in the rural Oriente in Cuba, African musical elements mix with Hispanic ones, and with French musical things brought by the winds come from the neighbouring Haiti.
About the end of the century, the emulsion is stabilized, and risks timidly its neck in the streets of Santiago and Havana, thanks to its trovadores : the son is born, and today, it is always alive.
Some people say that son is in Cuba what blues is in USA : a very simple form, basis of all, with its two feet so planted in its original cultures that it becomes without age and reaches the universality.
SAL SI SON reflects and offers the whole range of Cuban colors that are so characteristic ; the band does it with love and total respect for the music.

CUBAN E T CUBANEWS June 27, 2002
Cuba News / The Miami Herald The Miami Herald . Posted on Thu, Jun. 27, 2002. Castro threatens to reduce U.S. ties Immigration pact in peril From Herald Staff and Wire Reports HAVANA - Fidel Castro warned Wednesday that limited Cuba-U.S. relations could be cut further and the American mission on the island could be closed if U.S. diplomats continue "violations of our sovereignty.'' Migration agreements between the two countries were also being put at risk by American diplomats ''who go around the country as they like, organizing networks and conspiracies,'' the Cuban president said. Hours after Castro's speech, Cuba's National Assembly voted to consecrate its 41-year-old socialist system in the constitution as ''irrevocable'' and declare that ''capitalism will never return again'' to this Caribbean island. After a special meeting that included 168 speeches over three daylong sessions carrying long into the evenings, the voice vote among the 559 assembly members present was unanimous. The vote and Castro's new warning come as Washington steps up programs it says are aimed at bringing democracy to the communist nation, such as distributing radios so Cubans can tune in to U.S. government programming and increasing funding for dissident support groups in the United States.

They used to call it amateur night.
Police and bartenders say New Year’s Eve in the 1960s and ’70s was the most dangerous night of the year. It was the time when people were most likely to consume alcohol to excess. It also was a dangerous time to be on the roads because of drunken drivers.
Adams County Sheriff Brent Fischer said New Year’s Eve is still a night of celebration, but he believes most people are finding safer ways to party and to get home.
“I’d like to believe people are more responsible now than they were years ago. I think there’s more fear of being arrested and losing drivers licenses,” Fischer said.
In fact, Illinois and Missouri passed tougher drunken driving laws in the 1980s and made license forfeiture mandatory under some circumstances. Other states did the same, and national statistics show a sharp decline in drunken driving deaths since that time.
For instance, in 1982 there were 18,444 vehicle fatalities involving alcohol-impaired drivers. In 2000 there were 11,529 such fatalities.
“It’s getting better. People are getting smarter about their activities,” said Jim Rinella, president of the Rinella Company, a wholesale liquor distributor.
