Amazon UK Amazon USA The first volume of Jean-Yves Thibaudet 's recording of Claude Debussy's piano music included all the Preludes, the Suite Pour le Piano and the popular Arabesques. Here now, we have both sets of Images and the important, but still comparatively little known, and the other, more popular, of the two Suites, Suite bergamasque - the one with Clair de lune - plus the Children's Corner , which every young aspiring pianist tackles. All this music is played immaculately in studio recordings. I was glad of the inclusion of some rarities, an advantage of these integrales

Acclaim Follows Thibaudet to Lied
Revels with Ravel, lots of Liszt and a touch of Bill Evans' jazz are in store for music lovers at pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet's concert at 7:30 p.m. May 2 at the Lied Center for Performing Arts. Excellent seats are still available for this fundraiser for the Public Radio Nebraska Foundation and Nebraskans for Public Television.
Thibaudet's poetic interpretations, along with his ability to evoke the colors, textures and moods of the music he plays, have won him a following throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia and the Far East.
Over the past 15 years, Thibaudet has performed with virtually every major orchestra in the United States and abroad.
Thibaudet's Lied Center concert will benefit the Nebraska Public Radio Network and the Nebraska ETV Network. "This is the first combined fundraising effort in Nebraska public broadcasting history," said Steve Robinson, NPRN manager. "In our ongoing effort to find new sources of income to support statewide public broadcasting, it's a critically important event for us."
Robinson added, "The significance of this concert goes far beyond its fundraising potential. Jean-Yves Thibaudet is one of the most important artists of his generation. His presence in Nebraska promises to be one of the musical highlights of the season."

Pianist Thibaudet doesn't limit himself to classical repertoire
By Mary Campbell, Associated Press writer
NEW YORK Jean-Yves Thibaudet is his own person. Like most concert pianists, he plays and records the classics and enjoys chamber music. But he also likes to accompany singers, which most concert pianists don't.
Patrician-featured and hair-styled, he wears Versace clothes, has modeled for fashion photos and may model again. Superstitiously, he always wears red socks when he performs. He's approachable and friendly, talks agreeably to everybody who greets him at the Spoleto Festival in Italy which he sets aside time for yearly.
Always eager for new experiences, and an opera lover, he thought it would be fun to be on stage, to play briefly, during the Metropolitan Opera's upcoming new production of "Fedora."
His latest recording is a double CD of Debussy preludes. This follows CDs of music by Ravel, Schumann, Brahms, Liszt and Rachmaninoff. He has recorded more Ravel and early next year he'll complete two more Debussy CDs.
Next, London Records will release Mr. Thibaudet's first movie soundtrack, two Schubert impromptus, which actress Nicole Kidman "plays" on piano in the film "Portrait of a Lady."

Reviewer: The Rebecca Review.com
“Her natural command of messa di voce phrasing, willingness to shade the voice away to the quietest pianissimo and acute sensitivity to the words of Caccini’s love songs proved irresistible, attracting a generous mix of applause and foot stamping.” Such was the appreciation from the audience that the director had to request that the audience not stamp their feet as they would set off the alarm system. There are hardly words to describe Cecilia Bartoli’s remarkable vocal qualities, emotional range and warmth. When I listen to this CD, I am calmed completely. There is an element of comfort in her style. Maybe one could explain it as a lullaby for the soul. She has the ability to support the longest of phrases on the back of a single breath all while varying the tone color and dynamic level. Singing seems as effortless as breathing as she becomes emotion all while capturing the drama and mood. In this live performance from the Teatro Olympico in Vincenza, Italy, she performs each piece as if she is intimately entwined with the notes. How can music be this sensual and this comforting all at once? It just is. She can express a wide range of emotions, from profound despair to extreme joy.

Whatever sparkles and enchants is here in super-abundance. The Etudes, which unite pragmatism and fantasy to a unique degree, could hardly be presented more personally or vivaciously. Nos 6 and 7 are marvels of bright-eyed irony and humour while Nos 8 and 9 contrasts a haunting alternation of lassitude and hyperactivity with razor-sharp cascades of repeated notes.

The idea of programming the Opus 20’s of Haydn was the outgrowth of a dinner conversation we had with Charles Rogers, Artistic Director of the Carlsen Center. During our dinner, we were speaking of the important rapport with the audience that exists in chamber music and string quartets in particular. My thoughts have always been that string quartets tend to show the more personal and intimate side of the composer, musical love letters if you will, and since they were composed with smaller performance spaces in mind, the audience becomes a key element.
