Het is onder andere aan Vladimir Horowitz te danken dat enkele van zijn sonates bij het grote publiek bekend zijn geworden; ook zijn opus magnus, de Gradus ad Parnassum, een verzameling van 100 klavierstukken, verdient aandacht.
