What if the Biblical story of Job were told with modern characters? When comedy master, playwright Neil Simon tells the tale, there is lunacy, laughter and lessons to learn. Simon transplants the trials of Job to contemporary suburban Long Island, where Job becomes wealthy and respected businessman Joe Benjamin, and God's messenger, sent to test his faith, is a funny guy from Queens. This play is filled with the poignant humor and brilliant wit for which Simon is known and carries an underlying message of absolute faith during adversity. (Movie) Ghost World April 16, 7 pm, $5

Starring Julie Walters, John Hannah, Joanne Whalley and Patricia Hodge. Directed by Lewis Gilbert. I WISH I could say that the reunitification of the director and the star of Educating Rita was an occasion to savour.
Perhaps mistake of 82-year-old veteran British director Lewis Gilbert was in the choice of Shelagh Stephenson's stage play as the venue for renewing such an acquaintance. Turning the play from the confines of the stage to the big screen has obviously been a challenge even for a director of Gilbert's experience, and it shows.
Funded with a large chunk of money from the Isle Of Man's Film Commission, Gilbert takes every opportunity - perhaps too many opportunities - to move his piece out of the confines of the family home where it is largely based, and out into the town and countryside of that lovely island in a vain attempt to exorcise the film's theatrical demons.

Jerry Wright EAST TEXAS DULCIMER January 2001 Re: Dixie Darling – by Neal Walters Not too long ago, I invested in the Bear Family Carter Family compilation called "In the Shadow of Clinch Mountain." It's a 12-CD set of virtually all the Carter material and it comes with a really wonderful book written by Charles Wolfe who is widely known as a Country Music scholar. He's a prolific author has also written liner notes to literally dozens of albums. Anyway, here's what he had to say on page 68 about "Dixie Darling": Quote One of the best-known songs from the first Decca session was 'My Dixie Darling', which the Carters had learned from their old friend Harmon Jackson, a fiddler and singer from Russell County. Originally titled 'Dixie Darlings', the song was composed by the Missouri vaudeville songwriter and perfromer Perey Wenrich. One of the more successful Tin Pan Alley songwriters during the first decade of the 20th century. Wenrich was best known for his songs like 'Put on Your Old Grey Bonnet', 'On Moonlight Bay', and 'When You Wore a Tulip'. Though earlier accounts had the date of 'Dixie Darlings' as 1916, in fact versions of it were in print by 1907.
