Earl Wild is truly "the last of the great Romantic pianists." This eminent musician is considered internationally as one of the last in a long line of great virtuoso pianist/composers. Often heralded as "a super virtuoso" and "one of the 20th century's greatest pianists," Earl Wild has been a major legendary figure performing throughout the world for seven decades. Major recognition is something Mr. Wild has received numerous times in his long career. He has been featured in TIME magazine twice, both times with a full-page article with color photo. The last inclusion was on December 11, 2000 on the occasion of his 85th birthday . He was born on November 26, 1915 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. As a toddler his parents would often play opera overtures such as the one from Norma on their Edison phonograph. As the recordings were playing, the young Earl Wild would go to the family piano, reach up to the keyboard, find the exact notes and play along in the same key. At this early age of three, he displayed the rare gift of absolute pitch. This and other feats labeled him a child prodigy and led immediately to piano lessons. At six, he had a fluent technique and could read music easily. Before his twelfth birthday, he was accepted as a pupil of the famous teacher Selmar Janson, who had studied with Eugen d'Albert and Xaver Scharwenka, both students of the great virtuoso pianist/composer Franz Liszt. He was then placed into a program for artistically gifted young people at Pittsburgh's Carnegie Tech (the Institute of Technology - now Carnegie Mellon University). Enrolled throughout junior high, high school, and college, he graduated from Carnegie Tech in 1937. By nineteen, he was a concert hall veteran.

Earl Wild Having mastered ever facet of this art, American pianist Earl Wild is the complete musician and ultimate virtuoso. The pianistic tradition represented by Earl Wild can be traced directly to Franz Liszt through his studies with Selmar Jansen, who studied with Liszt pupils Xavier Scharwenka and Eugen d'Albert. Further studies were with the great Dutch pianist Egon Petri, a pupil of Busoni; Paul Doguereau, the distinguished French pianist and pupil of Ravel; Madame Barere, wife of the great Russian pianist Simon Barere; and Volya Cossack, a pupil of Isidore Philipp, who studied with Saint-Saens. Although still in his teens, Mr. Wild was hired by NBC in New York to become staff pianist. During his eight years at NBC he frequently participated as a member of the NBC Symphony Orchestra under Toscanini. In 1984 Arturo Toscanini invited Earl Wild to perform Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. This distinction made him the first American soloist and youngest artist to ever appear with the NBC Symphony a particular honor in light of Toscanini's infrequent use of soloists. The Rhapsody was a first performance for both Earl Wild and Maestro Toscanini. For an artist as prominent as Earl Wild, it is hardly surprising that he has participated in many premieres. In 1939 he was the first artist ever to give a piano recital on U.S. television. In Paris, in 1949, he was soloist in the world premiere performance of Paul Creston's Piano Concerto, later giving the American premiere of the work in Washington. In 1944 he was the pianist in the American premiere of Shostakovich's Piano Trio in E minor. With Sir Georg Solti and the Chicago Symphony in December of 1970, Mr. Wild gave the world premiere of Marvin David Levy's First Piano Concerto, a work specially written for him.

Born on November 26, 1915 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the young Wild displayed extraordinary musical ability from the age of three. By the time he was six years of age, he was reading music fluently and before his twelfth birthday, he was studying with the famous teacher, Selmar Janson. Earl Wild was then placed into a programme for artistically gifted young people at Pittsburgh's Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie Mellon University). Still in his early teens, Wild began playing piano and celeste in the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Otto Klemperer and by the age of nineteen, was already a concert hall veteran and had composed many piano transcriptions as well as arrangements for chamber orchestra that were often performed on local radio stations. He was also invited to perform on the radio station KDKA in Pittsburgh (the first radio station in the United States) and made such an impression that he began working there on a regular basis. " Earl Wild Goes To The Movies ," is a reissue of recordings made from 1963-1983, licensed from Reader's Digest, all produced by Charles Gerhardt, and engineered by the legendary Kenneth Wilkinson. These have been perfectly transferred to silver disc and sound better than ever. The title of this CD is perhaps a bit misleading, as some of the music never was featured specifically in movies, although it well could have been; but it doesn't matter, what is here is superb. Born in 1915, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Earl Wild's technical accomplishments are often likened to those of Liszt. Born with absolute pitch, he started playing the piano at the age of three. As a young pianist, wild was soloist with Arturo Toscanini and the NBC Symphony. Since then he has performed with virtually every major conductor and symphony orchestra in the world. Among the pieces he played were Mozartfs Sonata in F minor K. 332, Beethovenfs 32 variations in C minor, Mendelssohnfs Rondo Capriccioso, as well as works of Chopin and Liszt. Born in 1915, Mr. Wild has been a major figure in the performing arts for well into seven decades. He has played to acclaim throughout the world and, among the many publications in which he has appeared, was twice featured in Time Magazine articles. Mr. Wild also has the singular distinction of being invited to play before six US Presidents. In 1997, he received a GRAMMY for the CD, gEarl Wild -The Romantic Master,h which was devoted entirely to his own piano transcriptions. The concert took place in Shumei Hall, Pasadena, on November 17, 2002. Mr. Wild played with a profound passion, and yet a subtle touch. The performance was brilliant, remarkable for its fluidity and grace. Mr. Wild's teachers have included the great Dutch pianist Egon Petri, a student of Ferruccio Busoni; the distinguished French pianist Paul Doguereau, who was a pupil of Paderewski and Ravel; Selmar Janson, who studied with Eugen d'Albert and Xaver Scharwenka, both students of Franz Liszt; and Madame Helen Barere, the wife of the great Russian pianist Simon Barere. Earl Wild has appeared with nearly every orchestra, as well as performed countless recitals, in virtually every country. During his distinguished career, he has collaborated with many great conductors, such as Toscanini, Stokowski, Reiner, Klemperer, Horenstein, Leinsdorf, Fiedler, Mitropoulos, Grofe, Ormandy, Sargent, Dorati, Maazel, Solti, Copland, and Schippers; great instrumentalists such as Elman, Shumsky, Ricci, Mischakoff, Balakovich, Primrose, Gingold, Rose, Shapiro and Miller; and great singers such as Callas, Tourel, Pons, Matzenauer, Maynor, Melchior, Merrill, Lanza, Peerce, Milanov, Bumbry, and Lear.
