The "Split-Brain" by R. Joseph, Ph.D.
The human brain is functionally lateralized and hierarchically organized such that four mental systems are localized one on top of the other, and side by side. Hence, the mind and brain are hierarchically organized, the limbic system situated above the brainstem, and the cerebral hemispheres being organized such that two potentially independent mental systems coexist, literally side by side. As is now well established, the expressive and receptive aspects of speech and language, linguistic and verbal thought, mathematical and analytical reasoning, as well as the temporal-sequential and rhythmical aspects of consciousness, are associated with the functional integrity of the left half of the brain in the majority of the population.
If Broca's area were severely damaged, the ability to speak would become severely impaired, although the patient would still be able to sing, swear and praysinging, swearing and praying being mediated by the undamaged right hemisphere. If Wernicke's receptive speech area were damaged, the ability to comprehend spoken and written language would be abolished.

The psychology of the Arabian horse... June 1999 - part one What happens when a professor and a doctor of psychology start breeding Arabian horses? You can be assured that they'll do everything in their own very special way - but our visit to Dr. phil. Marina and Prof. Ruedi Groner's stud farm in Iffwil, Switzerland, proved that the result are beautiful, fun loving, sweet tempered horses. See for yourself... Roshah, by the Swiss foundation sire Shah Jehan (imported from Great Britain) and out of Rosmalika, the very first Arab Evelyne ever rode, is the Groner's foundation mare. Riala is Roshah's daughter out of the Kilimanjaro son Paladin. The stunning Patrenka is by the Naftalin son Almaz and out of the Aswan daughter Palma. She has won the heart of the Groner's veterinary, who is breeding warmbloods but would give them up if he could get his hands on this Russian treasure. When you see how she produces you will understand that she is definitely not for sale... Click on pictures to enlarge!

Bring Dreams to Life
David Thomas, Ph.D.,
Department Head
Dear OSU Psychology Department Alumni, You probably have received a postcard to notify you that OSU students will be calling soon to ask for your support for the University. I am writing to encourage you to direct your gift to the Psychology Department and its programs. Private support has always been important to OSU, but it is critical today as state dollars currently provide little more than half of the University's funding needs. To ensure that Oklahoma State can continue to provide the highest quality educational experience, a five-year $125 million campaign, Bringing Dreams to Life, was launched. As a graduate of the Department of Psychology, you can show your personal support with a campaign gift specific to the department's needs. Two important goals of the department are to create an endowment for the Psychology Diversified Students Program (PDSP), and to update the Psychological Services Center (PSC). The PDSP, established in 1970, is a nationally recognized program for the recruitment and retention of ethnic minority students and students with disabilities. The PDSP has been tremendously successful in recruiting talented students to the field with approximately 30-40% of the graduate students in the department in the PDSP. Funds are still needed however, for student support. The Psychology Department has set the goal of raising $100,000 to serve as an endowment to provide PDSP students with partial stipends in perpetuity.

Psychology Professor Explains Precognitive Dreams in Bin Laden Video Tape
"It is not too surprising to learn that a number of Bin Laden's most devout followers may have had dreams that in one way or another seemed to forecast the events of 9/11, " says Sonoma State University psychology professor David Van Nuys. There is a vast body of work in the field of parapsychology that supports the phenomenon of "precognitive dreams," that is dreams that somehow foreshadow future events, says Van Nuys, who is also chair of the university's psychology department. "These dreams are never exact replicas of the future but, when they occur, have enough similarities to be compelling." Parapsychological research has shown, in fact, that the most likely place for "psi," or ESP, to occur is, in fact, during the dream state or other altered states of consciousness, he reports.

As shocking as it might seem to me, some of you may not have even the slightest clue about: who in the heck the Swiss psychiatrist, Dr. Carl G. Most any spiritual sojourner interested in the growth and healing of Soul will, at the very least, find Jung's ideas fascinating. You might even feel like you've finally come home... And for those of you surfing through who are already well acquainted with Jung and Jungian Psychology? The Journey into Unus Mundus might even manage to have a surprise or two waiting for you. To create a masterpiece instead of a nightmare, instead of emotional dramas, can be very exciting. But if we are not aware that it's a dream, there is no way to change the dream. Most people are born, grow old, and die, and never notice that all of life is a dream, so they become trapped in their own nightmare. When we live without this awareness, something inside us is telling us all the time, "it is a dream, this can't be real." But we are not sure that it is a dream; it could be "real.
The reasoning mind is in the virtual reality, and it has no awareness that it's in the virtual reality, so it tries to justify, explain, and make sense of everything. The reasoning mind always wants answers. Even if the answers are wrong, those answers made us feel safe. That is why humans make all those assumptions, create all those theories, and all that knowledge that is completely untrue. Look at the knowledge of European society five or six hundred years ago, and you see a lot of books explaining the world of the angels, the world of the demons, life after death, going to heaven, and going to hell.

Table of Contents Esoteric Psychology II - Chapter II - The Ray of Personality - Some Problems of Psychology There are other sources of guidance, of inspiration and of revelation but, for the psychological purposes of our present study, the above will suffice. We will now touch upon the subject of dreams, which is assuming such importance in the minds of certain prominent psychologists and in certain schools of psychology. It is not my intention to criticize or attack their theories in any way. They have arrived at a most important and indicative fact - the fact of the interior, inner subjective life of humanity, which is based on ancient memories, on present teachings, and on contacts of various kinds. A true understanding of the dream-life of humanity would establish three facts:
  • The fact of reincarnation. The fact of there being some activity during sleep or unconsciousness. The fact of the soul, of that which persists and has continuity.
  • These three facts provide a definite line of approach to the problems which we are considering and they would, if analyzed, substantiate the position of the esotericists.
