The Problems of the Week are changing to better meet the needs and interests of teachers and students. If you have used the Discrete Math Problem of the Week, you may enjoy our new PreCalculus PoW The PreCalculus PoW is for students who have finished studying topics commonly covered in first-year algebra and high school geometry. Problems may also involve probability, statistics, discrete math, and trigonometry. The first problem of the school year will be previewed on Thursday, September 5. Students will be able to submit their solutions starting Monday, September 9. You will find all of our past Disrete Math PoWs in the Discrete Math Problems section of our Problems Library. If you're searching for a wider range of problems, we have pointers to a number of other problems hosted by other people or organizations . You're sure to find something there that will be entertaining and challenging. Good luck! We are not accepting submissions at this time.

The schedule The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics has recently (1989) elevated discrete mathematics to the level of algebra, geometry, and calculus by including a separate discrete mathematics standard in their Standards document. Indeed, the use of discrete mathematics has an essential part in the development of students' mathematical power in a society grounded in technology and communication. In particular, discrete mathematics includes and addresses: Social Decision Making, Fair Division, Election Theory, Graph Theory, Counting Techniques, Matrix Models, and Mathematical Iteration/Recursion.
