Learning Dynamical Systems: A Tutorial
This is the preface for a web-based tutorial on learning dynamical systems. The tutorial is organized as a hypertext document and includes a set of readings (some of which are available on the web), a set of html documents (providing context, explanations, definitions, and pointers to additional readings), and links to Mathematica packages and notebooks that allow readers to explore the main ideas described in the papers in an interactive computational setting. The tutorial is produced concurrently with a course held at Brown University since the 1995 Fall semester. A preliminary syllabus is available for the course. You are cordially invited to follow along with the course, but we warn you that the web pages covering the tutorial material are under construction; existing pages will be revised and new pages will be added as the semester progresses. If you want to follow along in the fall and avoid running into pages under construction, we advise you to keep pace with the schedule outlined in the syllabus. We invite your suggestions for improving the tutorial. Learning Dynamical Systems

14. Fifth SIAM Conference On Applications Of Dynamical Systems
The application of dynamical systems theory to areas outside of mathematics has proven to be an exciting and fruitful endeavor.

Final Program
The application of dynamical systems theory to areas outside of mathematics has proven to be an exciting and fruitful endeavor. The applications are highly diverse and interdisciplinary, ranging over such fields as Physics, Biology and Ecology, Engineering, Finance, Industrial Mathematics, Chemistry, Biochemistry and Genetics. This conference strives to achieve an exciting mixture of applications and mathematics. The goals of the conference are a cross-fertilization between the different fields of the applications, and increased communication between the mathematicians who build the theory, and the scientists who use it. ABSTRACT: Nonlinear dynamical systems, whether generated by maps or PDEs, often
exhibit sensitive dependence on initial conditions and posses high or even
infinite dimensional phase spaces. Luckily, the dynamical objects we wish
to study, such as periodic orbits, connecting orbits, and horseshoes, are
often low dimensional and posses more regularity than the typical
elements in the natural phase space. We use these observations in conjunction with an algebraic topological tool called the Conley index to develop a rigorous numerical method. This method is applied to the Kot-Schaffer model from ecology to uncover periodic orbits and complicated dynamics in the form of horseshoes.

A New Way to Communicate and Visualize Dynamics
The SIAM Journal on Applied Dynamical Systems (SIADS) publishes research articles on the mathematical analysis and modeling of dynamical systems and its application to the physical, engineering, and life sciences. SIADS is published in electronic format only. The use of color, animated visualizations, and internal linking is strongly encouraged where it enhances the exposition, but papers without these enhancements are accepted as well; review is based on research content. Submitted articles should contribute either to the theory of dynamical systems, to the understanding of dynamical systems phenomena through experiment or numerical simulation, or to the use of dynamical systems methods in applications. The images used in the DSWeb logo were created by Michael Dellnitz and Oliver Junge (University of Paderborn) using the numerical software package GAIO (University of Paderborn) and the visualization platform GRAPE (Universities of Bonn and Freiburg).

Dynamical Systems data base
This page is about the project of creating a data base of around 50,000 planar dynamical systems of the type described by the formula: x = f(x,y) y = g(x,y) where f and g are algebraic functions containing constants and the four operations. The data base has been used to test new visualization techniques explained in Scanning huge numbers of events . In the material connected to the article you will find a complete description of the data base with hundreds of images of dynamical systems. Drawing by accident I use this database to create interesting "fractal images" that you can find in this Gallery of fractal images . This older collection of images has also been built from this data base. I am also using the data base for reasearch in the dynamics of complex systems. You find here some material connected to this pursuit. Other material describing dynamical systems and the data base is listed here.
