MAI's Active EM Imaging System is capable of obtaining high resolution images through most geologies to depths over 300 meters. Unlike high resolution seismic, this system permits imaging through blasted rock and into old mine workings. Many minerals, as well as their grade, can be identified directly by their characteristic signatures. Multimetallic steeply dipping pod shaped ore-bodies in highly folded Cambrian strata have recently been imaged to depths in excess of 250 meters with great success.

About Academia Faculty Students ... Hamrock Society The Department of Earth Sciences, formerly the Department of Geology and Geophysics, was established in 1960. During the span of four decades the department has become one of the foremost centres of research, post graduate training and consultancy in the field of Earth Sciences. The department has been recipient of financial aid under the prestigious Special Assistance and COSIST programmes of UGC (Ministry of Human Resources and development, Govt. of India). The geological studies in the university date back to the middle of the last century when Colonel Sir Proby Cautley (who was responsible for establishing the Thomason Engineering College) was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society, London, for his pioneering work on the vertebrate fossils of the Shiwalik Ranges. Later Henry Benedict Medlicot, who was also admitted as the Fellow of the Royal Society in 1877, occupied the Chair in Geology and Experimental Sciences at Thomason College. Presently the department runs three courses viz. MSc in Applied Geology of two years duration, M.Tech. in Applied Geology and M.Tech. in Applied Geophysics each of three years' duration. Research work leading to PhD degree in several interdisciplinary areas and research and consultancy programmes constitute an integral part of the departmental activities. The faculty is engaged in a number of research projects sponsored by the Govt. of India agencies like UGC, CSIR, DST, ONGC, AICTE etc, and the consultancy projects sponsored by various industries, and government agencies. GSHHS - A Global Self-consistent, Hierarchical, High-resolution Shoreline Database
GSHHS is a high-resolution shoreline data set amalgamated from two data bases in the public domain. The data have undergone extensive processing and are free of internal inconsistencies such as erratic points and crossing segments. The shorelines are constructed entirely from hierarchically arranged closed polygons. The data can be used to simplify data searches and data selections, or to study the statistical characteristics of shorelines and land-masses. It comes with access software and routines to facilitate decimation based on a standard line-reduction algorithm. Availability of the GSHHS data (v1.2 May 18, 1999)
    • Download GSHHS data via FTP
The link above is to the NGDC anonymous FTP area, GSHHS data are also available for direct download from the SOEST server . Please see the README file in the FTP area for full documentation. The latest files for version 1.2 were created May 18, 1999. The new version corrects previous errors for Win32 systems and is Y2K and POSIX compliant.
