Mathematica 4 includes a highly optimized new algorithm for performing Fourier transforms. We can test it by having it transform a matrix containing a quarter of a million random elements. Compare this result with the same process in Mathematica 3, and you will find that the new version is five times faster than before. The fast Fourier transform algorithms also play a part in the multiplication of very high-precision numbers; beyond a certain level of precision, they allow for faster multiplication than the Karatsuba algorithm Mathematica otherwise uses for high-precision multiplication. Along with a new Fourier transform algorithm, symbolic integral transforms, which had previously been part of the standard add-ons, have now been moved to the kernel.

Fourier Series and Integral Transforms
Allan Pinkus, Samy Zafrany
Hardback In stock The aim of this book is to provide the reader with a basic understanding of Fourier series, Fourier transforms and Laplace transforms. The book is an expanded and polished version of the authors’ notes for a one semester course, for students of mathematics, electrical engineering, physics and computer science. Prerequisites for readers of this book are a basic course in both calculus and linear algebra. Otherwise the material is self-contained with numerous exercises and various examples of applications.

Laplace Transform

The Laplace transform is an integral transform perhaps second only to the Fourier transform in its utility in solving physical problems. The Laplace transform is particularly useful in solving linear ordinary differential equations such as those arising in the analysis of electronic circuits. The (unilateral) Laplace transform (not to be confused with the Lie derivative , also commonly denoted ) is defined by
where f t ) is defined for (Abramowitz and Stegun 1972). The unilateral Laplace transform is almost always what is meant by "the" Laplace transform, although a bilateral Laplace transform is sometimes also defined as
(Oppenheim et al. 1997). The unilateral Laplace transform is implemented in Mathematica as LaplaceTransform f[t] t s The inverse Laplace transform is known as the Bromwich integral , sometimes known as the Fourier-Mellin integral (see also the related Duhamel's convolution principle A table of several important one-sided Laplace transforms is given below. f range s t s a s s c s s n In the above table

20. Fourier Series And Integral Transforms
Fourier Series and integral transforms. (Hebrew version). By AllanPinkus and Samy Zafrany. The same holds for integral transforms.
http://mars.netanya.ac.il/~samy/fourier1.html
Fourier Series and Integral Transforms (Hebrew version) By: Allan Pinkus and Samy Zafrany A PostScript Source of all the Book! This is the Hebrew version of a textbook for an upper division undergraduate and introductory graduate level course intended for a basic understanding of Fourier series, Fourier transforms, and Laplace transforms. This book was later translated into English and has been published by Cambridge University Press. Click here for information on the English translation. Fourier series (and power series) are important examples of useful series of functions. Applications of Fourier series may be found in many diverse theoretical and applied areas. The same holds for integral transforms. The Fourier and Laplace transforms are the best known of these transforms and are prototypes of the general integral transforms. This book was originally prepared, in Hebrew, for the course "Fourier Series and Integral Transformations" given by the Department of Mathematics at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel. This course is intended for students of the Department of Electrical Engineering, but also includes students of the Physics and Computer Science Departments. It is a one semester course (14 weeks), given during the third semester of studies, with two hours of lectures and a one hour problem session each week. Please note that the files are in PostScript format (ps). You need a program like GhostView in order to be able to view them and print them. If you use Windows 95, click here to load
