The Baptist Faith Introduction An Introduction to the Baptist Faith The Baptist Family Individual Church Members Local Baptist Churches ... The Worldwide Family An Introduction to the Baptist Faith Baptists are radicals in the sense that they believe in returning to the roots of Christian faith ( note that the English word 'radical' comes from the Latin word 'radix' which means root). This means that they seek to root their life together in the Biblical pattern of being the church. Unlike the great state churches of Europe - Anglican, Lutheran and reformed - Baptists have always emphasised the need for personal faith. Instead of baptising babies, Baptists have reserved baptism for those who are able to make a personal confession of Jesus as Lord and Saviour. In the 16th Century when the modern Baptist movement was born, this emphasis on personal faith was perceived as a threat to the state church, to which all were expected to belong, with or without faith. In 17th Century England, Baptists refused to conform and be members of the Church of England, arguing that Christ, and not the King (or Queen), was head of the church. Baptists have been described as 'Dissenters' or 'nonconformists' - they stand in the 'Free Church' tradition. Persecuted for their beliefs throughout the 17th Century, Baptists at one stage developed into two 'streams' of theological thought: the 'General' Baptists believed that when Christ died on the cross, He died for everyone in 'general'; the 'Particular' Baptists, however, believed that Christ died for the 'elect' i.e. a 'particular' group of people. Later these two streams came together to form the present Baptist Union of Great Britain.

British Baptist Celebrate "Jesus in Widescreen"
Plymouth, England, was the setting as more than 2.000 British Baptists gathered 3 - 6 May to celebrate the annual assembly. The theme, "Jesus in Widescreen," was chosen to promote how Baptists must readily open their attitudes towards a changing world and be prepared to accommodate these changes.
"There are three simple things I want to do on my tour," said Nigel Wright, president of the BUGB. "I want to care for Baptist churches; encourage them in their missions and nudge them in certain directions." Carol Murray, president of the British Mission Society, also began her one-year term.

    80. Why Great Britain?
However, his infiltration of great britain with liberal theology has been highlysuccessful. For all practical purposes, the baptist union is lost. The Answer.
    http://bbfi-europe.org/Dowell/dowellwhy.html
    Ken and Krista Dowell
Serving In The Field Of England
    Why Great Britain ?
    The History
England has been used mightily of God in times past to impact the world for Jesus Christ. From Wycliffe and Spurgeon on the homefront, to Carey and Livingstone on the foreign fields; truly God has raised up giants of the faith in this land. Yet with Gideon of old many are saying, "Where be all the miracles which our fathers told us of..."
    The Need
    A. Satan’s Attacks Satan has focused his attack on Great Britain for centuries. His attempt to crush the gospel by burning God’s people at the stake, tearing them apart in torture chambers, and keeping the Bible out of the hands of the people, has failed. However, his infiltration of Great Britain with liberal theology has been highly successful. B. The Result of Satan’s Attacks Only 2% of the British go to church of any denomination on a given Sunday. Between 1900 and 1950 twelve hundred Baptist churches closed. Currently there is one Baptist church closing every nine days. For all practical purposes, the Baptist Union is lost.
    The Answer
"And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also." II Timothy 22
