Church of the Brethren
There were several Old Order Brethren congregations in Somerset County. Many people incorrectly refer to this sect of the Anabaptists as "DUNKARD". This term was applied to the members of the Church of the Brethren in the late 19th century and early 20th. The word "Dunker" was acutally a anglicized corruption of the German word, "Tunker," which means "dipper" or immerserer referring to the mode of baptism practiced by this group. The term is still used today by two minor conservative orders, Old Order Dunkards and the Dunkard Brethren. The mode of baptism practiced by this group was adopted during this groups founding in Pennsylvania in the 1770's. In Brothers Valley Township It is believed that the first religious group to arrive in Somerset County were the German Baptists or "Die Bruder's Leute". They are the one's who named "Brueder Thal" or Brothers Valley and were said to have been organized in the county as early as 1763. In Stony Creek Township The Stony Creek congregation called, Glade Church, first records its founding in 1763 under the supervision of George William MARTIN. In 1770, a list of 17 members is recorded by the Rev. Martin and his wife.

Welcome to Community Grace Brethren Church Home Page
Welcome to the Community Grace Brethren Church of Goldendale, Washington. A church with a Bible teaching ministry that cares about YOU! We are a community of believers in Jesus Christ, together seek ing to know and love God as we live in the small town of Goldendale, Washington. We have a rich history and a Biblical statement of beliefs, as well as a vision and mission which God has placed on our hearts. Because God has called us to reach the community we live in, we are also active in outreach. We have a large children's ministry through AWANA, and "The Thing At The Place" (Jr. and Sr. High youth group) actively seeks to share the Gospel with youth in the community. The whole church loves to work together to put on the Christmas Dessert Theatre each December, sharing the story of our Savior's birth through drama. These are just a few of our ministries. If you would like to know more about who we are email us at: goldgbc@gorge.net

Welcome to Austin Brethren Church
Austin, Texas Located at 1706 Peyton Gin Road, Austin, Texas 78758 Sunday Worship: 11:00 a.m. preceded by Sunday School at 10:00 a.m. Austin Brethren Church is a congregation of the Unity of the Brethren, which is a denomination that traces its heritage to the early Czech Protestant Reformation in Central Europe. The congregation welcomes into its fellowship all believers of whatever heritage or experience. We embrace the motto of the Brethren: "In essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty, and in all things love." The essentials include public worship, the preaching of the Word, the sacraments, prayer, singing, and fellowship. The non-essentials include freedom of conscience, diverse ways of outreach and ministry, and respect for and cooperation with all faiths and traditions. The last part of the motto, "in all things love," is an ongoing challenge to Austin Brethren Churchas well as churches everywherefor God is love. Record Group CB535
Dallas Mennonite Brethren Church (Dallas, Ore.).
Records, 1905-1990.
2.0 linear ft.
2 microfilm reels Historical note
The Dallas Mennonite Brethren Church was organized in 1919. It originally was made up of Mennonite Brethren people living in the town of Dallas, who found it inconvenient to travel several miles out of town to attend the North Dallas Mennonite Brethren Church (founded in 1905). This group began meeting together in 1917, and was organized two years later. In 1923 the members of the North Dallas church united with the Dallas church, and the North Dallas church was dissolved. Since 1953 the Dallas Mennonite Brethren Church has owned and operated the Dallas Rest Home, a home for the elderly. From 1891 until 1896 there existed another Mennonite Brethren congregation north of Dallas. It was dissolved when most of its members joined the nearby Salt Creek Baptist Church. As other Mennonite Brethren families moved into the area, a new Mennonite Brethren Church was founded in the area in 1905.
Scope and content note
This record group includes historical accounts, congregational meeting minutes (1917-1985), Church Council, board and committee minutes (1939-1985), membership records, directories (1970-1988), newsletters (1982), brochures, and other miscellaneous items.
