The great heritage of the Evangelical Free Church people around the world includes the fact that fellowship and ministry opportunities in the local church are based solely on one's personal faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, trusting in Him alone for salvation. Membership requires commitment to sound doctrine as expressed in our Statement of Faith. However, a person is not excluded from membership because he or she does not agree on every fine point of doctrine. Within the Evangelical Free Church, there is allowance for legitimate differences of understanding in some areas of doctrine. The Evangelical Free Church is evangelical but not separatistic. 1375 Carman Rd Manchester, Missouri 63021 Visitor Information Maps Directions A Short History Of First Evangelical Free Church The First Evangelical Free Church of St. Louis County was born on June 19, l983 with a worship service at the rented facilities of Des Peres Presbyterian Church. However, the church was conceived about six months earlier when five families started meeting on Sunday evenings for fellowship and mutual accountability. They became convinced that a new church was needed in West County. These families were originally from different denominational backgrounds, but had in common a desire for warm Christian fellowship and sound biblical teaching, without the doctrinal rigidity that characterizes some conservative churches. One of the first decisions this new family of believers made was to connect with a larger body of Christians. After studying and interviewing several denominations, they chose to cast their lot with the Evangelical Free Church of America. The church was commissioned in the Great Lakes District on July 17, l983. In July of l984, when the church was some 13 months old and had grown to about 55 in regular attendance, Michael P. Andrus was called as the first pastor. He had been serving the First Evangelical Free Church in Wichita, Kansas, for the previous ten years and shared the same heart for church planting the St. Louis church leaders had. By the time Pastor Andrus arrived in late October, l984, two things happenedthe church doubled in attendance to about 110 and it moved from Des Peres Presbyterian to Sanford-Brown Business College on Manchester.
