Hermeticism and the 8 Paths
The Ways to the Path of Theurgy or Holy Magic are opened.
The Ways to the Path of the Qabalah are opened. The Tradition tells us that this is the Path of the discovery of the Concealed
Mystery, the equilibrium of balance. It is the Path of the Divine going forth from beyond the Three Veils of Negative Existence, the establishment of the I Am, Eheieh, the Creation of All That Is, and the return to the One. Therefore the sub-formula of this Path are the Flaming Sword, the Ten Sephiroth, and the Serpent of Wisdom. On this Path, we are healed by walking the Way of Return to the Divine.
The Ways to the Path of the Rosy Cross are opened.
This is the Path that leads to the secret, sacred Mountain of Initiation; to the

Hermeticism Thus the writers of the Corpus Hermetica attributed their philosophy to a legendary figure named Hermes Trismegistus (thrice-great).
Hermes Trigmegistus This figure is associated with the god Thoth or Hermes who was alleged to have given the Egyptians their knowledge of the arts and sciences. The main dictum of the hermetic tradition as found in the Emerald Tablet in essence states "As Above, So Below" meaning that humanity will find within itself the nature of the entire universe. Professor Wayne Shumaker, a modern historian of the occult sciences, uses an analogy to place Hermeticism within the vast history of human understanding: Again and again we are told the whole world is alive. "If therefore the world is always a living animal was, and is, and will be nothing in the world is mortal. Since every single part, such as it is, is always living and is in a world which is always one and is always a living animal, there is no place in the world for death" (Ascl. 29). When in our own day, C. S. Lewis' fictive character Ransom first traveled through space, the word "space," the reader is told, was a "a blasphemous libel for this empyrean ocean of radiance in which they swam. He could not call it "dead"; he felt life pouring toward him from it every minute." The Hermetic universe was similarly vitalistic, permeated with life. So is the universe of the low savage, the Naturmensch; but long before the second and third centuries of our era the primitive belief had been rationalized.

hermeticism is a body of knowledge which started with Hermes Trismegistusin Egypt, and later in Greece. It Alchemy. hermeticism.

Hermeticism Hermes Trismegistus
Hermeticism is a school of study based on the work of Hermes Trismegistus. The principal tenet is "as above, so below", in other words everything that is in heaven is in some way reflected in what happens on the earth and vice versa. It also involves a development of the Greek Theory of four elements: (earth, air, fire, water), and leads naturally into the development of Alchemy.
Hermeticism has become the Western Esoteric Tradition, a System of Mysticism. It is a foundation for many other systems such as Alchemy, Rosicrucianism, Golden Dawn, etc. It shares its knowledge with other traditions. It started in Egypt and Greece with a few documents, such as the Emerald Tablet, but is now a large body of knowledge. Instead of attempting to reproduce this material here, I invite your visit to the following five sites: The Gnostic Society Library, Hermetic Fellowship, J. R. Ritman Library, Frater 93's page about Theosophy, and 2000 C.E. at The Four + Corners. These resources in the following order, should give you a good foundation for Hermeticism.
1. This is a good place to start your study of Hermeticism. The Gnostic Society Library has "The Corpus Hermeticum", an excellent, easy to understand body of knowledge that will give you a fundamental understanding of this complex subject.

[Place this page on your computer "Favorites" for easy reference while you are studying this section]
The study of Hermeticism is a very important subject in Mysticism. It is probably one of the most important. The Western Mystical Tradition is based on Hermeticism, even Rosicrucianism is based on it. Some of the other pages could have been included under Rosicrucianism, but for this study, the pages are more appropriate to be included with Hermeticism. In these studies it is the major subject, other sub-divisions become minor, but important. Subjects like actuality/reality, etc. are more appropriate with the study of Rosicrucianism. As you progress in your study of the Hermeticism Page, you may read the other fourteen pages in the order they are listed. Start out by studying Hermeticism alone for awhile, and then you may gradually add the other pages. If you do not understand a page, put it aside and read it again later, after you have "absorbed" more Hermeticism. If you have any problems, please e-mail me. I am sure, you will find these studies very interesting and Spiritually rewarding.

These are the internal links that you should read and study for this section of your studies:

Why Hermeticism? Why Hermeticism? The Hermetic Gnosis, known through the Corpus Hermeticum and its primary ancillae, the many texts containing instruction in the practical arts of Alchemy. Astrology and Magic, is of considerable interest in a wide variety of fieldsthe history of science, the history of ideas, the history and philosophy of religion, mathematics, chemistry and medicine, as well as chronology and calendrics, astrology, alchemy, magic, political science, semiotics and psychology. Why the Hermetic Gnosis? From the Hellenistic Period to the present day the Hermetic Gnosis has exerted a powerful and formative, although often indirect, influence on western science, society and thought. The Corpus Hermeticum 's first libellus, the Pymander , with its cosmogonic myth, its declaration of the divine origin of Man, and its eight-staged spiritual ascent has long been an important literary source for mystical initiation. Its peculiar concept of spiritual rebirth, for instance in Libellus II, The Basin , contains Persian, Greek and Egyptian Gnostic features interwoven in an early universalism characteristic of the cosmopolitanism of the Hellenistic Age. Its exhortation to spiritual refinement is noble. Its declaration that ignorance of God is the greatest evil in men is an expression of its wisdom, as is its cultivation of the Agathosdaimon, cosubstantial with God, existing potentially as Mind in Man

Freemasonry and the Hermetic Tradition R.A. Gilbert GNOSIS #6 If, as is stated categorically by the United Grand Lodge of England , Freemasonry "is not a Secret Society" and is "not a religion or a substitute for religion," then what is it? And why should students of the occult be concerned with the history, symbolism and rituals of this "peculiar system of morality, veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols," which is defined officially as, "one of the world's oldest secular fraternal societies . . . a society of men concerned with spiritual values. Its members are taught its precepts by a series of ritual dramas, which follow ancient forms and use stonemasons' customs and tools as allegorical guides. The essential qualification for admission and continuing membership is a belief in a Supreme Being. Membership is open to men of any race or religion who can fulfill this essential qualification and are of good repute"? Perhaps the occultist, who sees in freemasonry the survival of ancient, pagan mystery religions, sees something that, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder, for what he sees is clearly invisible both to the governing body of the Craft and to the bulk of its members. Freemasonry does have a traditional history (around which its rituals are constructed) that places its origin at the time of the building of King Solomon's Temple, but in the material world we can trace its history from 1717 A.D. when the first Grand Lodge in the world - the Grand Lodge of England - was founded at London. From that time on Freemasonry has expanded, undergoing many vicissitudes along the way - schisms, reconciliations, quarrels over jurisdiction and quarrels over essential beliefs until today it is firmly established in most countries of the world (the exceptions being countries of the Communist bloc, and those countries that suffer under Islamic fundamentalism).

56. End Of Europe's Middle Ages - Hermeticism
hermeticism. hermeticism was the notion of God as a magician that developed as aresult of the translation of texts in the late 1400's by Ficino in Florence.
http://www.ucalgary.ca/applied_history/tutor/endmiddle/bluedot/hermetic.html
End of Europe's Middle Ages Hermeticism There were three major components to hermeticism that were especially important to scholars in the late Middle Ages and Renaissance: alchemy, numerology and the magic of letters (cryptography and ciphers). Alchemy was the art, or science, of corporeal substance, combination and mixture. It sought to transmute base metals, such as lead, to precious metals, such as gold, by reducing a base metal to prime matter and reconstructing it into gold. A second aspect of alchemy was the quest for the recipe for the magical elixir, or "Philosopher's Stone", that was believed to be able to permeate base metals and in this way transform them into gold. To facilitate their efforts, alchemists developed many of the procedures and apparatus that is now used in modern chemical laboratories.
Letters, especially the letters of the Hebrew alphabet, were believed to have magical powers when arranged in certain combinations. The Cabbala was the mystical interpretation of the Hebraic Old Testament. Breaking the code of the Bible would, according to tradition, reveal all the secrets of the universe. Many hermeticists applied themselves to this goal and attempted to reinterpret the Bible using ciphers. The study of numbers and ratios were yet another aspect of hermetic study. Just as letters and combinations of letters were seen to have mystical powers, so too did numbers. The study of numbers made an impact upon many other areas of scientific study, such as astronomy and mathematics, as well as areas that would not be considered scientific by modern definitions, such as astrology and numerology.

It is clear that from 1300 b.c.e up to 300 b.c.e , the history of Akhnaton was deliberatly omitted from all historical records of Egypt. During this millenium Egypt's power constantly declined, while Israel appeared and became a moderately powerful nation in the Middle East. At the same time Athens surged in Greece and grew toward great power. At its zenith, Athens crumbled (Socrates), but continued in importance with Alexander who established a Greek dynasty (Ptolemean) in Egypt.
