Israel is very well connected to the Internet. The Israel Internet Association maintains the national Domain Name registry. There are many companies and organizations on the web, in the public and private sector. This page points to Israeli indexes to keep track of most Israeli sites, rather than trying to duplicate their efforts. Machba (Merkaz haCHishuvim haBein-Universitai, the Israeli Interuniversity Computer Center) has an informative Israel Academic Network(ILAN) FAQ. The Israeli Internet Society is another good source of information. The Shamash Jewish Internet Consortium , a project of Hebrew College , includes texts of the tanach, divrei torah, kosher traveler's database, and mailing list newsletter archives. Shamash provides the web service that brings you this page.

The Seven Kinds with which the Land of Israel has been blessed
The Land of Israel has been blessed with seven kinds of cereals and fruits, that during certain periods in history brought wealth and prosperity to the population, and during others just served its sustenance.
The bible describes the country as follows:
A land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of oil olive, and honey (meaning here dates) [Deuteronomy 8:8] The phrase became associated with fertility, luck and good fortune. The plants mentioned in it are: Triticum aestivum Linnaeus and Triticum durum Desfontaines, Hordeum vulgare Linnaeus, Vitis vinifera Linnaeus, Ficus carica Linnaeus, Punica granatum Linnaeus, Olea europea Linnaeus and Phoenix dactylifera Linnaeus, respectively.
Many of these crops were domesticated in the "Fertile Crescent", presently the area stretching from Iraq, through Turkey-Syria-Lebanon, Israel to Egypt.
In Israel, situated at the central part of this region, these crops have thus been cultivated since ancient times. Scientific studies aiming at improving some of them presently take place in the Institution for Cereal Crops Improvement , associated with the Department of Botany.

Judaism and Jewish Apologetics (1997)
Guido G.B. Deimel
"Those who wish to seek out the causes of miracles, and to understand the things of nature as philosophers, and not stare at them in astonishment like fools, are soon considered heretical and impious and proclaimed as such by those whom the mob adore as the interpreters of nature and the gods. For these men know that once ignorance is put aside, that wonderment would be taken away which is the only means by which their authority is preserved." [
Preface
New Testament Scriptures. They have not been told by their parents to cherish or worship Jesus Christ when they were children, and thus they are not used to believing in the virgin birth or other absurdities. But what about their own religion? To many Jews the basic tenet of Judaism and Jewish teaching is a "message of morality, tolerance, peace and human dignity" Is this true?
Introduction
For several reasons Jewish believers are confronted with much less logical problems than Christian believers of most denominations. Jews never had to cope with logical inconsistencies of the New Testament. Accordingly, Jews in all of history also had the advantage of logic and consistency on their side, in so far as problems arose out of New Testament interpretations of verses taken from the Old Testament: this collection of sacred Scriptures is called the Tanakh by Jews and to them represents the entire Bible.

Welcome!
Welcome to Judaism 101! Judaism 101 is an online encyclopedia of Judaism, covering Jewish beliefs, people, places, things, language, scripture, holidays, practices and customs. My goal is to make freely available a wide variety of basic, general information about Judaism, written from a traditional perspective in plain English. This web site is constantly growing, with new information added every few weeks. Everything in this web site is free to use or distribute in any way, with three conditions: 1) if you use text, graphics or sound from this site, please credit this site; 2) do not redistribute this information for profit; 3) do not "mirror" this site or copy pages from this site for use on other web sites. For further details, please see my page. The information in this site is written predominantly from the Orthodox viewpoint, because I believe that is the starting point for any inquiry into Judaism. As recently as 200 years ago, this was the only Judaism, and it still is the only Judaism in many parts of the world. Be aware, however, that many Jews do not follow all of the traditions described here, or in the precise form described here. The

Language can be both help and trick us in cross-cultural communication. The following material is written in Messianic Jewish terminology and style. It shows us the challenges we "Christians" [ more ] face in cross-cultural communication with Jews. This material is based on Return of the Remnant: The Rebirth of Messianic Judaism Messianic terminology is used to express the biblical faith in the Messiah [ more ] because such terminology was how the New Covenant [ more ] faith was expressed in its earliest stages. Messianic believers like talking about their faith in the Messiah in a manner consistent with Jewish heritage and culture. Belief in the Messiah is consistent with being Jewish. He is the fulfillment of God's promises to Israel. Using Messianic terminology imparts faith in Messiah to children, friends and family in a manner consistent with Jewish heritage. Messianic terms communicate biblical truth without the negative baggage of historical anti-Semitism.
