The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints encourages its members to research their family histories and undertake vicarious ordinace work on their behalf within the temples of the Church. Because of this emphasis the Church has occupied itself for many decades in collecting and copying records of genealogical interest and has the world's largest genealogy record collection. These records are made available to members and non-members alike through Family History Centres around the world. In addition the Church now runs a genealogy site, Family Search , making available a database of over 400 million names online, including the IGI and Ancestral File databases, as well as a host of other aids to research. This section provides access to the Family History Centre locations with England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland along with a limited number of research helps and guides. Being a private unfunded initiative, we do not have the capacity at present to help with specific genealogical research queries but we may be able to provide general pointers to those looking where to start or facing a particular problem. *** REQUEST FOR HISTORICAL INFORMATION AND MATERIAL ***
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (often known as the Mormons) was organised in 1830. Many think of the Church as an American organisation but few appreciate that it has been present in the British Isles since 1837. Between then and the turn of the century around 100,000 converts joined the Church in Britain before emigrating. For over 50 years, from 1840 onwards, the Church was dominated by British converts. Even today a significant portion of the American members are descended from those British converts. Many important events took place here and many of the Church's well known leaders gained experience while labouring on our shores. With around 180,000 members currently in the British Isles, this web site sets out to provide an understanding of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, its British history and the activities of the Church here now. It provides a useful resource both to members of the Church and to those interested in finding out more.

... The Church Introduction to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Introduction to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
When Jesus Christ lived on the earth, He organized His Church so that all people could receive His gospel and return one day to live with God, our Heavenly Father. After Jesus Christ ascended to heaven, His Apostles continued to receive revelation from Him on how to direct the work of His Church. However, after they were killed, members changed the teachings of the Church that He had established. While many good people and some truth remained, this Apostasy , or general falling away from the truth, brought about the withdrawal of the Church from the earth. The Apostle Peter prophesied that Jesus would restore His Church before His Second Coming ( Jesus Christ began to restore His Church in its fulness to the earth through the Prophet Joseph Smith in 1820. It has grown to become a worldwide Church with over 11 million members. It has the same teachings and basic organization as the Church established by Jesus in New Testament times. We invite you to learn more about this Church.
