First Latter-day Saints in Great Britain The River Ribble at Preston, Lancashire.
Near this spot on 30 July 1837, the first British converts to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were baptised by immersion in the River Ribble. Elder Heber C. Kimball, one of the Twelve Apostles of the Church, baptised six men and three women: George D. Watt, first, and then Charles Miller, Thomas Walmsley, Ann Elizabeth Walmesley, Miles Hodgson, Henry Billsbury, Mary Ann Brown, Ann Dawson, and George Wate. The Prophet Joseph Smith had sent Apostles Heber C. Kimball and Orson Hyde, with Willard Richards, Joseph Fielding, John Goodson, Isaac Russell, and John Snider from America to the British Isles. They arrived in Liverpool on 19 July 1837. They travelled first to Preston where the Rev. James Fielding, Elder Fielding's brother, permitted them to preach in the Independent chapel on Vauxhall Road. (The chapel has long since been demolished, but the present-day location is near to the entrance of Norwich Place off St. Austin's Road.) The first converts came from his congregation. Further use of the chapel being denied, they preached in the Market Square near the Obelisk, then met for nearly three years in the "Cockpit" or Temperance Hall near Stoneygate.

I would like to encourage visitors not to copy the above image and refer them to the Archives at rromig@cofchrist.org Who was Who in RLDS History is a website dedicated to the many people who contributed to the history of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Here you will find biographical and bibliographical information about the ministry, politicians, authors, composers, and interesting characters who were a part of this movement.
This site has no official association with the Community of Christ/Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint . I have included links to sites from various religious traditions. This includes a number of different restoration groups as well as some that are dedicated to convincing people to leave the restoration movement. Inclusion of these sites is only to provide access to biographical information and should neither been seen as approval or disapproval of any views or doctrines promulgated on them.
This site will always be under construction. It is my desire to create a reference work that will give people an initial access to the research available on many "who made a difference."

This set of documents is my attempt to provide answers to the questions that I receive about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and about The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Christ . These answers represent Jeff Lindsay's views and interpretations of scripture, history, and religious thought. My comments and answers have not been approved by the Church or its leaders and could be utterly incorrect. Latter-day Saint doctrine is not defined by my writings or by the writings of any private individual. It is not defined by stray, alleged quotes of past leaders. Even the "official" LDS Web Site is not necessarily a definitive, canonized source of doctrine (but it does have great graphics). Official LDS doctrine, that which members are expected to accept, is defined by the scriptures (the Bible, the Book of Mormon, and a few other items in the LDS canon) and by official, ratified pronouncements of the First Presidency of the Church. If my views disagree with those standards, I am clearly wrong.

Overview:
Mormon faith groups believe in Restorationism : the concept that: The true Christian church died out early in the 2 nd Century CE , when religious leaders abandoned many of the teachings of Jesus Christ, Paul and the other apostles. It was restored by Joseph Smith in the early 19 th century, when he founded the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Smith's original denomination fragmented into many faith groups, mainly because of: Conflicts during the 1840s, triggered by the assassination of Joseph Smith, and Additional conflicts during the 1890s over polygamy. The Mormon wing of Christianity now consists of almost a hundred denominations: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (a.k.a. The Church of Jesus Christ, and the LDS) is by far the largest Mormon denomination. The more liberal Community of Christ (formerly called the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints ) is second in size. Although religious historians and the public generally refer to them as " Mormons ," they do not use the term themselves, because of its association with polygamy, and because they believe the name was not part of the original church.

The The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is also known as the " LDS Church. " Beliefs concerning the LDS church vary: Members believe themselves to be a restoration of the original church of the Apostles as it existed in the 1 st Century CE . They believe that late in that century, massive heresies developed within the Christian movement that caused it to permanently deviate from Jesus' teachings. From these heresies came the Roman Catholic church Eastern Orthodox churches , thousands of Protestant denominations, etc. Many Gentiles (non-Mormons) consider the LDS church to be a unique conservative denomination within Protestant Christianity, who have supplemented traditional Christianity with beliefs concerning an ancient American civilization and additional revelations from God. Some Christian Fundamentalist authors, particularly those from the
