The Journey is the Reward: Tracing Scandinavian Latter-day Saints
A new book has been created to assist you in your search of ancestry from the Scandinavian Mission from 1852-1881 . It is free and it is available now. To learn more about this book go to the Journey is the Reward book page.
The purpose of this page is to provide step-by-step procedures to trace the emigration of members of the LDS church from the Scandinavian Mission in the time period of 1852-1868.
History
Understanding the emigration begins with an understanding of the history of the Scandinavian Mission and the emigration itself. A Brief History of the Scandinavian Mission provides an overview while the articles Mormon Influence on Scandinavian Settlement in Nebraska and Scandinavians to Zion: From the Old World to the New World provide more details on some migration patterns.
Where Do I start?
The first place to begin is to identify the nationality, names, birthdates or birth year of your ancestors that came from Scandinavia. Any other family information such as parent's names, sibling names and their ages is also useful.
One of the things to keep in mind are the name variations that existed during the latter half of the 19th century. Standardized spelling had not come into its own, so someone with a name like Niels Nielsen may be spelled Nils Nelsin, Neils Nilson, Nels Nillsson, or Nels Nelson.

Mormons
Also called the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.) This religious body had its origin during the early part of the nineteenth century. Joseph Smith, the founder and first president of the sect, was the son of a Vermont farmer, and was born in Sharon township, Windsor County, in that state, on 23 December, 1805. In the spring of 1820, while living with his parents at Manchester, Ontario (now Wayne) County, New York , he became deeply concerned upon the subject of his salvation , a condition partly induced by a religious revival which proselytized a few of his relatives to the Presbyterian Faith . Joseph himself was inclined toward Methodism ; to satisfy his mind as to which one of the existing sects he should join, he sought Divine guidance, and claimed to have received in answer to prayer a visitation from two glorious beings, who told him not to connect himself to any of these Churches, but to bide the coming of Church of Christ, which was about to be re-established. According to his own statement, there appeared to him on the night of 21 September, 1823, a heavenly messenger, who gave his name as Moroni, and revealed the existence of an ancient record containing the fullness of the Gospel of Christ as taught by the Saviour after his

The Book of Mormon
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
The Book of Mormon is a record of God's dealings with the ancient inhabitants of the Americas and contains, as does the Book of Mormon, the fullness of the everlasting gospel. We invite all men everywhere to read the Book of Mormon, to ponder in their hearts the message it contains, and the to ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ if the book is true. Those who pursue this course and ask in faith will gain a testimony of its truth and divinity by the power of the Holy Ghost. (See Moroni 10:3-5.)

49. DO MORMON TEMPLES TESTIFY OF BAHA'U'LLAH?
How the Mormon Endowmen Ceremony prepares latterday saints for the coming of Baha'u'llah the Son of Man and Founder of the Baha'i Faith.
http://www.angelfire.com/mo/baha/temples.html
DO MORMON TEMPLES TESTIFY OF BAHA'U'LLAH?
Baha'i Evaluations of the Mormon Temple There are some striking similarities between what occurs in Mormon Temples and some things in the Baha'i Faith. For example: *The symbol of the Bab was the five-pointed star. This symbol can be found on the outside of older Mormon Temples (such as the Salt Lake Temple). The symbol of 5 also comes to bear in the Washing and Anoiting Room where Patrons are anointed on their 5 senses. Also, before 1990, Patrons would embrace at the white veil "on the five points of fellowship"; which is strikingly similar to the Babi embrace. There are 5 Covenants (Laws) which Mormons must keep in order to enter the Presence of the Father (pass beyond the white veil and enter the Celestial Room which represents the Celestial Kingdom). *Patrons wear all white clothing. Many of the Babis wore all white; to distringuish themselves from Muslims. Babi women did not always go veiled as did Muslim women, but only veiled themselves during prayer. Before 1990 (when some changes were made in the Endowment Ceremony) female patrons only veiled themselves when praying. *Before 1990 Patrons prayed in a circle. Babis would also pray in a circle instead in lines like Muslims did.

Split off from the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints (now Community of Christ) Category Society Religion and Spirituality Related Sects...... Latter Day Saints. Saints was the term used in speaking of the membersof Christ's church in New Testament times. latterday saints

Restoration
The church of the Restoration was officially "organized" April 6, 1830 with Joseph Smith, Jr., as the President, Prophet, Seer, and Revelator, in accordance with the commandments and revelations received at that time, and also in harmony with the order of the church described in the New Testament.
Church of Jesus Christ
Jesus said, "I will build my church" (Matthew 16:18). The apostle Paul wrote, "Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone" (Ephesians 2:20). A cornerstone bears the name of the structure as a mark of identity. His church was to be "The Church of Jesus Christ" in order to signify whose church it was, hence the main part of the name of the restored church.
Latter Day Saints
"Saints" was the term used in speaking of the members of Christ's church in New Testament times. "Latter-day Saints" is a term identifying members of his church in this last dispensation of time, and is very significant of the fact that there was a restoration, even of the name used in the ancient church.

Moving Mars This annotated bibliography list, a subset derived from the Adherents.com Religion in Literature database, is intended as a resource for literary research. It lists mainstream science fiction and fantasy novels, short stories and movies (speculative fiction) which contain references specifically to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and to Mormonism in general. This list is certainly not comprehensive, but it does list all Hugo-, Nebula-, and Locus-winning novels with Latter-day Saint characters or references. This list does not include every reference to Latter-day Saints within each novel. Each novel or story is listed only once, with a brief explanation or sample quote. Many works include more than one reference, and in some, Latter-day Saints are a central element. (Titles in bold are those with the most extensive Latter-day Saint references.) Once again, this is a literary research resource; this list is NOT a source of information about the Church of Jesus Christ, nor is it a "recommended reading list" (Parkin has such a list
