Today: We're sure you've seen us before... probably at 120km from the QEW wondering "what the heck do all those people do there all the time?!?" Well, besides the fact we have parking issues* (there always appears to be more people then there really are when we park all over our lawn), we're probably just having some sort of get together that you weren't invited to. Ahem... um... until now that is. Check out the rest of our site to find out a little bit more about ourselves, what we do, what we believe, etc. and if there's anything that sounds interesting to you, please, feel free to come by and get a better view. *(we always try to leave a few spaces open for visitor parking)

History Would the delegates who traveled to Winnipeg to attend the 1925 General Conference of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada have ever forseen such an outcome to one of their decisions? At that time they directed Dr. J.E. Purdie, an Anglican minister who had established a 3-year Bible College in Winnipeg, to open another college in Eastern Canada. The Great Depression interfered with their plans but in 1939 James Swanson founded Ontario Pentecostal Bible School in Toronto. Students lived off-campus and attended classes at Bethel Pentecostal Church and then later at Danforth Gospel Temple. C.B. Smith took over as principal from 1940 to 1944 until he became the Superintendent of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada. During the 7-year tenure of the subsequent principal, Tom Johnstone, Ontario Pentecostal Bible School was joined by Maritime Bible Institute and moved to Evangel Temple in Toronto. The newly-formed Eastern Pentecostal Bible College was sponsored by the PAOC churches in Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritimes, and The Pentecostal Assemblies of Newfoundland. The college finally grew to the point where in 1951 the Nicholls Hospital in Peterborough was purchased. The school now not only contained classrooms but also a residence. Substantial additions were made over the years, including the C.B. Smith Memorial Building (1963), the Charles Ratz Education Building (1974), the Emma Hann and Bronsdon halls, which replaced Blair Hall, and a Library/cafeteria extension. Leadership over the college was provided by Presidents W.H. Found, C.B Smith, C.H. Bronsdon, G.O. Atkinson, R.W. Taitinger, and C.F. Verge.

top top top ... top A Brief Overview of its History, Organization and Growth* History Pentecostalism in Newfoundland and Labrador is related to the phenomenon of the Pentecostal Movement which developed global proportions at the turn of the twentieth century. The message was brought to Newfoundland by Alice B. Garrigus (1858-1949), an unmarried public school teacher from Rockville, Connecticut. Garrigus arrived in Newfoundland on December 1, 1910 and, on the afternoon of Easter Sunday 1911, opened Bethesda Mission on New Gower Street in St. John's, the Newfoundland capital. The spark which was fanned into the flame of Pentecost in Newfoundland was fuelled by the efforts of Victoria Booth-Clibborn Demarest (1889-1982). In 1919 she conducted revival meetings in a Methodist church in St. John's. One report states that 2,000 people experienced salvation during this crusade. Many of these eventually began to fellowship with Bethesda Mission. From this initial effort, the Pentecostal message was carried to various parts of the island and later to Labrador. Entire volumes can be written of the pioneers and the call to evangelize that characterized the early days of the Pentecostal Movement in Britain's oldest colony and Canada's newest province.

Iris Scheel has been a missionary in Kenya with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada for the last 50 years. She is a leader in Christian education and curriculum development in Kenya.
Iris Marie Scheel whose nickname is "Scheeli" is a Canadian by birth whose grandparents immigrated to Canada from Germany in the 1890s. Born on May 30th, 1926, she was the eighth of eleven children born to Ernest and Martha Ullary Scheel in the town of Arnprior, western Ontario.
Her parents were godly and active in Arnprior Pentecostal church as she grew up. She was saved and spirit-filled when she was nine years old in a Sunday evening service in 1935. Iris felt called as a young child to be a missionary.
She went to Primary School and High School in Arnprior and later to a Teacher's College in Ottawa, graduating in 1948. While teaching in Toronto, she felt God's call afresh, resigned from teaching and went to a Bible College (CBC) operated by the Assemblies of God in Springfield, Missouri. During her two years there, she applied to serve in Kenya. As a result, the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada (PAOC) Missions Department in Toronto commissioned her and sent her to Kenya as a licensed Ministerial Missionary. In Kenya she learned to speak Kiswahili and Kimaragoli.
In 1954 Iris opened the Goibei Girls High School in Kenya and in 1958 she started the first Youth Camp of All Kenya Churches. In 1960 Scheel handed over the leadership of the Goibei Girls High School but continued working as Christian Education (CED) Director training leaders in Childrens' Ministries in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania from 1960 to 1978. In the 1970s she started Christian Ambasadors In Mission (CAIM) Outreaches, an outreach organization for young people in East Africa.
