Welcome to the official site of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World. It is our hope that you will find helpful information, and that God will bless you for visiting this site. What is the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World About (Our Preamble) The "Pentecostal Assemblies of the World" is the continuation of the great revival that began at Jerusalem on the Day of Pentecost, A.D. 33, and is founded upon the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets, Jesus Christ, Himself being the Chief Cornerstone. (Acts 2:1-12; Eph. 2:19, 20) Although the true followers have been little known, yet from that time until now, there have always been earnest contenders for the "faith which was once delivered unto the saints." At various intervals, throughout the past centuries, the followers of the Apostolic Faith and Doctrine have become prominent through great revivals that have appeared in Great Britain, the United States, and Canada. In the days of Tertulian (A.D. 207), Chryostom (4th Century), Christians of the 13th Century, the early Quakers, Wesley, Whitefield and Irving, the gifts and manifestations of the Apostolic Church were much in evidence as the revival spirit swept over the country.

The mystery of the wisdom of God is often veiled in the humanity of chosen vessels. This was true at the turn of the 20th century. It was God's plan to establish the truth in the earth through an organization called the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. Only when one knows his purpose can he establish his program. Only when one understands the principle can he develop the practice. The Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. was established on purpose; consequently, our practices were based upon God's principles. While it is true that practices can change, principles must always remain the same. Purpose is the foundation upon which God has built the church through Jesus Christ our Lord. An Apostolic Pentecostal believes in and practices the doctrine that was delivered to the saints, by the Apostles and prophets. Jesus Christ Himself being the Chief Apostle. As it pertains to Salvation We believe that one must follow Jesus' command to be born again of the water and of the Spirit (John 3:5). This message was echoed by the Apostle Peter in Acts 2:38, when he said "Repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." On the Day of Pentecost, those that received the Holy Ghost, had the biblical sign of speaking in tongues (fluent speech in a language that one has not learned). That included All of the Apostles as well as Mary the mother of Jesus and nearly 107 others. Thus we as Apostolics maintain that to partake in the New Birth experience, one must be water baptized by immersion, in the name of Jesus Christ and be filled with the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues. If the Apostles had to have it. And even Jesus' own mother had to have it. We know that God surely expects us to have it too. As it pertains to God We believe in one God, who is spirit. But who in the fullness of time came to earth and robed himself in flesh, to redeem mankind. This one God manifested himself as Jesus. And Jesus manifested the one God. We say with the Apostle Paul "Great is the mystery of godliness, God was manifest in the flesh...(I Timothy 3:16)." For in Jesus Christ was housed "...all the fulness of the Godhead bodily (Colossians 2:9)." We as Apostolics hail Jesus Christ as our Lord and our God.

As a result of the Azusa Street Revival, a number of independent Pentecostal churches and their leaders, in an effort to stabilize these new works, felt the need to come together and from an Association of Churches of "like precious faith," thus forming the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World. Its goal was to further spread the Gospel and to give support to each other. The substantial number of Pentecostal congregations formed in the years immediately following the Azusa Street Revival inevitably caused the new movement to be faced with the problem of formal organization. The independent churches and missions of the first type were somewhat remedied by the recognition of lay boards and elected pastors. For the next few years, the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World focused upon general meetings and the development of its organizational structure. The late Bishop Morris E. Golder wrote: "The original organization bearing the name of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World came into existence in the year of 1906 in the city of Los Angeles, State of California." The late Bishop G. T. Haywood concurs with this fact, writing in the

(continued) A mong those who accepted the Oneness doctrine in the early period was Elder Garfield Thomas Haywood, an African American minister from Indianapolis, who pastored a very successful Pentecostal church on Indianapolis that had, in 1913, between 400-500 members. The racial make up of the congregation was about 50% African American and 50% white. The name of the church was Christ Temple of the Apostolic Faith Assembly. Christ Temple was one of the largest Pentecostal churches and congregations in the world because of Bishops Haywood's was rebaptized in the Name of Jesus. Subsequently, he rebaptized his entire congregation in the Name of Jesus. Bishop Haywood played a tremendous role in the early days of the Pentecostal Movement, particularly the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World. He was born in Greencastle, Indiana, and when he was three years old, his parents moved to Indianapolis. He would spend the rest of his life living in Indianapolis. He began pastoring in 1908. Haywood was multi-gifted as a professional cartoonist-artist, a Gospel song writer, a poet, an author of several books, a teacher, and a preacher. He was also the speaker at many of the camp meetings during that era. He traveled extensively throughout the country. He also traveled to the Middle East, Palestine, the British West Indies, and Canada. Prior to becoming the Presiding Bishop of the Pentecostal Assemblies of World, he held the office of General Secretary. He was by far the most sought after speaker, teacher and preacher in the Oneness Movement during his lifetime as a minister.
