Thank you very much for visiting my homepage!
I am a Women Division member of Soka Gakkai in America (SGI-USA).
I work for a company on the East Coast where I use computers all the time. That's how I got interested in the Internet - particularly websites. I am chanting to go to Law School. My goal is to become a humanistic lawyer. Naturally I am interested in legal issues.
Please excuse me that I am using a pseudonym, because I work for a large company, and I don't want to expose my real name. The fact that I use a pseudonym does not by any way mean that the articles I have translated are false and fabricated. I attach the Newssource always with my articles.
I will explain through this homepage that the fundamental cause for the Soka Gakkai bashing is the media-control by Japanese government, which is afraid of losing authoritarian power over common people. Most of articles in my homepage were translated from Japanese books and newspapers - both from non-Gakki and Gakkai publications. I also provided a space in my homepage where interesting articles by SGI members can be preserved.

This web site is in no way affiliated with Nichiren Shoshu, SGI-USA, SGI, Soka Gakkai Japan, or any other organizations affiliated with the Soka Gakkai or Nichiren Shoshu. If ever we needed unity (Itai-Doshin) it is NOW!!! With the world on the brink of a war that will definitely kill many innocent people all over the world, including people in the United States, it is imperative that Nichiren followers unite for Kosen-Rufu. This is not the time for petty differences. Nichiren Said it, "All in all, the disciples and believers of Nichiren should chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo (Daimoku) in perfect unity (Itai Doshin) transcending all differences among themselves to become indivisible as fish and water in which they swim. This spiritual bond is the basis for the universal transmission of the ultimate law of life and death. Herein lies the true goal of Nichiren's propagation. When you are so united, even the greatest hope for Kosen Rufu can be fulfilled without fail. If any of Nichiren's disciples disrupt the unity of Itai Doshin , he will destroy his own castle from within."

It was one of a small number of printed items among many thousands of manuscripts, comprising a library which must have been sealed up in about AD 1000. Although not the earliest example of blockprinting, it is the earliest which bears an actual date. The colophon, at the inner end, reads: `Reverently [caused to be] made for universal free distribution by Wang jie on behalf of his two parents on the 13th of the 4th moon of the 9th year of Xiantong [i.e. 11th May AD 868]'.

Like many sociologists, I have something of a love-hate relationship with survey research. On the one hand, it can provide hard empirical data that are virtually unattainable by other means. But unless it is backed up with more direct qualitative research, survey methodology often leaves the investigator standing on the outside unable to plumb the real depths and complexity of our social life. Hammond and Machacek's new book, Soka Gakkai in America , is an excellent example of how valuable good survey research can be, as well as of its inherent limitations. The most essential practice of Sooka Gakkai Buddhism is chanting centered around veneration of the Lotus Suutra There is little doubt that the demands of the global market are transforming the way we live and the way we think, but it is essential to the future of social science that we maintain a critical distance from these developments. The incredible richness of human behavior cannot be reduced to the mechanical operations of the marketplace. After all, the roots of Buddhism stretch back more than two millennia before the origins of contemporary capitalism to a time when market exchange was of far less importance. Any analysis that reduces religion simply to one more capitalist exchange ignores our deepest spiritual impulses and impoverishes its subject matter.

In a written report, first provide a three-four paragraph summary of Tibeten Buddhism, including a comparison and contrast with especially the Vajrayana tradition from which it derives.
Then provide a critical review of the film in terms of how well/poorly it represents Tibeten Buddhism as Fenton et al have described it.
Similarly, review the Time article, commenting on especially two points: (a) how accurately does the article portray "Buddhism" in its origins and teachings as we have studied it, and (b) how has the introduction of Buddhism in America (from what traditions?) changed its teachings and practices?
Finally, what do these contrasts and changes tell you about how a religious tradition both changes and is changed by the larger culture as it enters that culture from "the outside"?

76. Notice Of Expulsion To Soka Gakkai, December, 1991
the doctrines and faith of this sect clearly indicate that the soka gakkai has becomea tremendously slanderous organization which is destroying True buddhism.
http://ww2.netnitco.net/users/jqpublic/noe.html
December, 1991 TO: All Members of the Soka Gakkai FROM: Nichiren Shoshu Bureau of Religious Affairs On November 28, 1991, Nichiren Shoshu notified the Soka Gakkai organization of its expulsion from this sect. As a result, the Soka Gakkai is no longer associated with Nichiren Shoshu. In accordance with the provisions of this expulsion order, this sect will not recognize the Soka Gakkai lay organization. However, since each member of the Soka Gakkai is first a believer of Nichiren Shoshu because of the reception of Gojukai and the issuance of a Gohonzon through a local temple, each individual retains his or her membership in this sect. Therefore, Nichiren Shoshu will still accept a Nichiren Shoshu member's application for a Tozan pilgrimage to the Head Temple. Nichiren Shoshu will also continue to accept requests for the various ceremonies held at different times during a person's life such as coming of age rites, weddings, funerals and memorial services, as well as requests for activities conducted throughout the year. Regarding requests for Gojukai or the issuance of Gohonzon, the party making this request must become a member of the Hokkeko or a direct temple follower and be willing to genuinely persevere in the faith of Nichiren Shoshu. Otherwise, such requests cannot be accepted.

Soka Gakkai Reaffirms Nichiren Shoshu Doctrines
The Soka Gakkai once swore to 66th High Priest Nittatsu Shonin and the priesthood that it would observe fundamental issues on the study of Buddhism, as published in the Seikyo Shinbum on June 30, 1978, as it's repentence in the "1977 Deviations in Doctrine." This document was approved by Nittatsu Shonin and the priesthood on June 29th, 1978, at a nationwide guidance meeting and was published the following day. The Gakkai promised to drive home these guidelines in it's study and to it's members. President Ikeda referred to this document in the Seikyo Shinbum on April 2nd, 1980, as follows: Exact words from the February 5, 1979, World Tribune: "Basic Questions of Study" "The Treasure of the Priest" "Of the Three treasures, the Treasure of the Priest in Nichiren Shoshu refers to the second High Priest Nikko Shonin and, as president Ikeda explained, to the Successivie high priests who alone carry on the heritage of Nichiren Shoshu. We must never confuse the 'Treasure of the Priest', fundamental to the doctrine of Nichiren Shoshu, with the concept of 'wagoso', or harmonous unity of believers, which belongs to the realm of faith and practice. Moreover, we should not say, even in the broadest sense, that the Gakkai constitutes the 'Treasure of the priest.' "Direct connection to Nichiren Daishonin" "The expression 'direct connection with Nichiren Daishonin' has been used to mean fusing oneself with the Gohonzon of the Three Great Secret Laws, which is the life of Nichiren Daishonin.

BUDDHISM: AN OVERVIEW
On April 30, 2002, during the first day of the Spring Training Course in Japan, an SGI Representatives Meeting was held with 205 SGI leaders representing 50 countries, together with members of the SGI Board of Directors. The form of gongyo was one of many subjects discussed. It was agreed that reciting the essential portions of the "Expedient Means" and "Life Span" chapters of the Lotus Sutra, commonly referred to as Parts A & C, will be the new SGI standard gongyo practice. Nichiren Daishonin did not prescribe a particular format for reciting the sutra. The practice of five and three recitations is not what the Daishonin himself articulated; the priesthood formulated it many years after the Daishonin's lifetime and second Soka Gakkai President Josei Toda adopted it on behalf of the lay practitioners after World War II. It is clear that Nichiren Daishonin encouraged the recitation of the "Expedient Means" (Hoben) and "Life Span" (Juryo) chapters in addition to the primary practice of chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo; but he did not prescribe a specific format or number of repetitions for the sutra recitation. The current practice of five recitations in the morning and three in the evening evolved over the centuries and has been modified with the changing times. The Daishonin wrote about chanting daimoku and reciting portions of the "Expedient Means" and "Life Span" chapters. The format we are adopting does not mean that gongyo has been made less assiduous, or easier. What we've been calling the "full" gongyo of five and three sutra recitations originated with Nichiren Shoshu. The priests at one time would go to five different buildings on the head temple grounds to conduct gongyo. Later, instead of doing one prayer at each of five different locations, they did all five prayers in one place. For us, since we only do gongyo in one place, reciting the sutra portions once is natural and appropriate.
