You say "the Moonies," I say "the Unies" - let's call the whole thing off! Suffice it to say, members of Korean whiz-kid Sun Moon's Unification Church know a good thing when they see it. Whether it's participating in an arranged marriage for 40,000 strangers - or spending a vacation-free year hawking Ginsu steak knives door-to-door, these kids show real spunk in all that they do! And why not? Their church offers salvation, job security, and hot, steamy bedroom action - all rolled into one!

1. With the purpose of eliminating "the spiritual sales" and recovering the damages suffered by the victimes, the present Network began its activities since February, 1987, and was formally established in May of the same year. In the past seven years, approximately 300 lawyears from across the country have been continuing the activities.
2. The Spiritual Sales is a wicked sales conducted by the "Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Chrisuianity" ("Unification Church" hereafter) for gaining money for its activities. The typical ways of doing this are as follows:
(1) Approaching the citizens through individual door-to-doorvisitations or in the downtown area while hiding its identity as the Unification Churci. "Please cooperate in the questionnaire for the study of the youths' consciousness." "I am studying palm reading." "There are lines in your hand which tell that you are in the transition period." They draw out the worries, unfortunate happenings in the family and check the financial situation.
(2) Through such an approach, they trick the people into buying a seal stamp (hanko) or a sosary , at home, coffie shop, or apartment room , by threatening them for long hours saying, "in order to free you from the fateful destiny of ancestors."

One of the primary means of gaining credibility employed by Sun Myung Moon and the Unification Church is the many conferences and programs presented through its front organizations. These are usually presented as if unconnected to the Church. Yet Moon or his wife, or both, will frequently play a prominent role at the function. Typically they will bring the keynote address, in which they will present Unification theology.
Claims that such front organizations are not affiliated with the Unification Church are empty when viewed in the light of the publisher's statement in the church's publication, The Unification News, which reads in part:
"Many of the activities, projects and organizations described in the Unification News as affiliated with or part of the 'Unification Church' are in fact entities which are organizationally and/or financially independent of HSA-UWC [the Unification Church], but are commonly considered to be 'Unification Church' activities because they are fully or partially funded, inspired, or staffed by HSA-UWC, its members and other adherents of the Unification faith" (June 1996, p. 23).
In this one statement the Church both denies and admits the association of these groups with the Church. These groups are "organizationally and/or financially independent" of the Church, yet "fully or partially funded, inspired, or staffed" by the Church and its members! Using such doublespeak, the Unification Church sponsors or conducts various seminars and conferences throughout the world while denying it is the presenting organization. Because of such claims, many are drawn to these programs not realizing that they are attending an event sponsored by the Unification Church or one of its "affiliated" organizations.

The Unification Church in South America
Summary:
In Brazil, federal police are investigating the Rev Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church, in the wake of allegations of tax evasion.
Details or Transcript: Stephen Crittenden: The Reverend Sun Myung Moon’s Unification Church – or the Moonies, as they’re better known – seems to be in trouble again. In recent years, the Moonies have been buying up huge tracts of land on the border of Brazil and Paraguay. They say they’re establishing a heaven-on-earth called the New Hope East Garden. But the Brazilian authorities are concerned about what they could be up to in an area notorious for smuggling, arms dealing, money-laundering and drug-running. Last week Brazil’s Federal Police carried out a series of raids, seizing documents and computers. In 1982, the Reverend Moon spent 11 months in an American jail for tax fraud, but that hasn’t stopped former US President George Bush Senior from lending his support to the Reverend Moon’s various South American ventures. The BBC's South America correspondent Tom Gibb is speaking to David Rutledge from Sao Paolo.

The government of Venezuela has banned the activities of the Unification Church after a long-festering controversy. Officials say that the church's followers held invalid visas that made their presence illegal.
Similar steps have been taken recently by Honduras, El Salvador, and Costa Rica. The deportations in Central America followed calls by Protestant and Catholic churches troubled by the growing presence and influence of the Unification Church.
In Venezuela, church officials have denied allegations that illegal immigrants have been imported and charges that it encourages youths to leave home.
The decision came after months of controversy and allegations in local newspapers that church members practice polygamy and abduct children.
Vice Justice Minister Kurt Nagel says the main reason for the ban is because missionaries and members are foreigners on tourist visas who really have no tourist intentions.

The Hawai'i County Planning Commission granted opponents' requests for a contested case hearing, although a date for the hearing has not been set. Foundation President Joe Tully said Moon initially considered a site in the Marshall Islands but decided instead to build a regional school on the Big Island, with students from Hawai'i making up about 20 percent of its enrollment. While there would be differences in emphasis, he said the proposed High School of the Pacific would be much like Hawai'i Preparatory Academy in Waimea, which counts Tully among its alumni. Students would be recruited from 12 Pacific island nations whose prime ministers and education leaders have written letters in support of the school, Tully said. "This is better for the community than a bunch of new subdivision homes," he said.

    STATEMENT DM184
    The Unification Church Seeks Influence,
Acceptance Among the Political (“Christian”) Right After newspapers across America last December revealed Unification Church attempts to infiltrate the political “Christian Right” through gifts to political action committees and conservative Christian groups, the Moonies quieted their activities. Now some Unification Church-watchers are concerned that the group is stepping-up another tactic which may result in political acceptance: infiltrating independent charismatic ministries to gain favor in the burgeoning charismatic movement as a whole. “They’re out there winning friends and influencing people,” said a source at the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) who did not want to be named, adding that gaining acceptance in America is essential to the church’s objective of having their leader Sun Myung Moon recognized as the second coming of Christ. Last December’s articles, which appeared mostly in prominent Knight-Ridder newspapers, stated that in March 1987 Moon forged an alliance with the Christian Voice, the largest conservative Christian lobby in America. They also reported that Moon has been funding anticommunist guerrillas in Central America, Afghanistan, and the Philippines, and that the Unification Church gave the late John T. Dolan, founder of the 300,000-member National Conservative Political Action Committee, a $775,000 gift. Former Treasury Secretary Robert Anderson had also been paid $127,500 as a Unification Church consultant.

Short History of the United Free Church of Scotland Presbyterianism Presbyterian describes a method Church Government. The word presbyter means elder, and Presbyterianism means government of the Church by elders, These are divided into two classes, those who rule over the spiritual affairs of the congregation, and those who teach and rule. The latter the ministers, the former the elders, and together they form the Kirk Session, A separate body in a congregation, variously known as a Committee of Management, a Deacons Court, or a Congregational Board, is concerned with property, income and expenditure. Presbyterianism has always asserted pointedly the duty of every member of Church to care personally for the Church and to further it in all its activities by his personal support and interest. Every member has the right to take part in the election of the minister and in the management of the affairs of the congregation. Every member is expected contribute according to his resources. The Church in Scotland The Reformed Church in Scotland came into being in 1560. It was established in 1567. The essence of Establishment is a contractual relation with the state involving certain undertakings and securing certain exclusive privileges and preferences. This contract is expressed and embodied in a series of statutes from 1567 onwards (That in 1587 declares 'There is no other face of Kirk, nor other face of religion, than is presently by the favour of God established within this realm,') concluding with the act of 1921 which embodies nine articles setting forth the constitution of the

    Free Church of Scotland
(Known since 1900 as the UNITED FREE CHURCH) An ecclesiastical organization in Scotland which includes (1908) more than 500,000 of the 1,200,000 inhabitants of that country professing adherence to Presbyterian principles. The existence of the Free Church as a separate ecclesiastical body dates from 1843, when a large number of members, both lay and clerical, of the Established Church of Scotland, severed their connection with that body as a protest against the encroachment of the civil power on the independence of the Church, especially in the matters of presentation to vacant benefices. According to the Free-Church view, the Church of Scotland, from the date of its inception in 1560, upon the overthrow of the old religion had possessed the inherent right of exercising her spiritual jurisdiction through her elected assembly, absolutely free of any interference by the civil power. Such an independence had been asserted by her first leaders, Knox and Melville, and especially laid down and claimed in both the first and second books of discipline, issued in 1560 and 1581. The restoration of "prelacy"(the episcopal form of church government) in 1606 by James I, the revival of self governing powers of the Assembly in 1649, its subsequent suspension under Cromwell in 1653 and again after the Restoration, the Revolution The well-wishers of the new United Free Church are naturally looking forward to an enlarged field of influence and a wider scope of activity, both at home and in the mission-field. What must, however, fill with anxiety every friend of Scottish

The Free Church - An Outline of Its History and Witness The decision to break with the Establishment in 1843 did not ariseas Dr. Brown so cogently argues, and so clearly shows from any desire on the part of the protesters to change the long-existing relationship of Church and State in Scotland; on the con-trary, the long struggle that led to the Disruption was, in fact, a determined effort to preserve that relationship in the terms of the agreement that had been made between both bodies at the time of the Scottish Reformation. If a new denomination did originate in Scotland on 18th May I843, it was not the body meeting in Edinburgh's Tanfield Hall, but the residuary Assembly of the Church of Scotland which had sat on in St. Andrew's Church after the protesting party had withdrawn. Dr. Robert S. Candlish, second only to Chalmers himself in popular leadership at the time, expressed this view with perfect clarity;'The date of the existence of the present Established Church of Scotland is 1843; the date of our existence is 1560. It is a reasonable requirement, however, that all such claims should be substantiated by unambiguous evidence, and the claim of the Free Church of Scotland to be in direct descent from the Reformed Church of Scotland of 1560 is one that will bear the fullest investigation. In a book like this which deals with its distinctive principles, let us look, to begin with, at its attitude to the Holy Scriptures.
