Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches UFMCC The Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches (UFMCC) plays a vital role in addressing the spiritual needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered community around the world. For those of us who were raised in a religious atmosphere, homosexuality was usually associated with shame and guilt. As a result, many of us were cut off from the spiritual dimension of our lives. Metropolitan Community Churches provide an opportunity to explore a spiritual experience that affirms who we are. UFMCC World Center

NLMCC Welcome Services Christian Education ... The Epistle
Our ministry places an emphasis on the Gospel of Christ and God's love for all persons, for this is a God who cares, accepts and who first loved us. God loves us regardless of who or what we are.
We take seriously the commission of Jesus Christ who said "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Creator, the Christ, and the Holy Spirit". (Matthew 28:19) Who We Are (Galatians 3:28) New Life MCC of Hampton Roads serves to bring all people to God through Christ. To this end we arrange for regular services of worship, prayer, interpretation of the Scriptures, and edification through the teaching and preaching of the Word. New Life MCC of Hampton Roads is a Christian Church and a member congregation of the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches. If you are lesbian, bisexual, gay or transgendered, you may wonder how one can be all of this and Christian. At MCC, we share a basic Christian principle that God's love is all encompassing, includes all people, and is absolutely unconditional. God came to us in human form as Jesus Christ so that we might learn and share that love. We share in God's love and we have been created as wondrous, beautiful and unique individuals by a loving God. Scripture affirms that "For God so loved the world that God gave the one and only Jesus Christ, that whoever believes in Christ shall not perish but have eternal life".

It launched a national movement. During Thursday's standing-room only rally in West Hollywood, the Rev. Troy Perry, Founder and Moderator of the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches, announced the formation of a national campaign, "200,000 by 2000." "The shock and pain we have felt around Matthew Shepard's murder must be translated beyond words into action," said Perry, a delegate to President Clinton's White House Conference on Hate Crimes. "The "200,000 by 2000 Campaign" is a positive step in this direction. The campaign is gathering signatures and endorsements of 200,000 American religious leaders calling for full enactment of federal hate crimes legislation by the Year 2000." Perry, who attended funeral services for Matt Shepard and who led the Community Memorial Service in Wyoming, knows something about hate crimes.

Doctrine, Sacraments, and Rites A. Doctrine
Christianity is the revelation of God in Jesus Christ and is the religion set forth in the Scriptures. Jesus Christ is foretold in the Old Testament, presented in the New Testament, and proclaimed by the Christian Church in every age and in every land. Founded in the interest of offering a church home to all who confess and believe, the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches moves in the mainstream of Christianity. Our faith is based upon the principles outlined in the historic creeds: Apostles and Nicene We believe:
  • In one triune God, omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient, of one substance and of three persons: God, our Parent-Creator; Jesus Christ, the only begotten son of God, God in flesh, human; and the Holy Spirit, God as our Sustainer.
That the Bible is the divinely inspired Word of God, showing forth God to every person through the law and the prophets, and finally, completely, and ultimately on earth in the being of Jesus Christ.
That Jesus...the Christ...historically recorded as living some 2,000 years before this writing, is God incarnate, of human birth, fully God and fully human, and that by being one with God, Jesus has demonstrated once and forever that all people are likewise Children of God, being spiritually made in God's image.

He founded All Saints Metropolitan Community Church in West Hollywood and, later, Good Shepherd Metropolitan Community Church in the Riverside/San Bernardino area. In 1989, he drafted the organizational structure and canons of the Sarum Episcopal Church and collaborated with Father Breton in opening St. Aelred's Chapel. Father Bernier remains a resident priest of St. Aelred's Chapel to this date. FATHER J.E. PAUL BRETON FATHER JOHN H. AYRES Father John Ayres was born the son of a doctor in a Methodist family. In his adulthood, he sought a career in law and later turned to ministry in the Episcopal Church. During his adulthood, he served as a commissioned officer in the United States Navy. He married and had children. In coming to terms with his sexuality, he separated from his wife on amicable terms and later pursued a career in the ministry of the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches. Ordained a minister in this body, Father Ayres served in Chicago, Indiannapolis and Toronto. His memories of Toronto are precious to him. In his retirement, he came to the Inland Empire and found housing with a long-time friend in Redlands. After searching for a comfortable church home, he settled with St. Aelred's Chapel where he was ordained

Texas Court Tramples on Church-State Separation
MCC Refused Recognition Because Not 'Mainline'
Mainstream Religious Groups Protest the Decision
Compiled by GayToday Wichita Falls, Texas
A Texas court has violated church/state separation by deciding that a child of a marriage ending in divorce could attend only a "mainline" church with her mother, six religious groups said today. The American Jewish Congress, the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA, the American Friends Service Committee and the Universal Fellowship of the Metropolitan Community Church called on the Texas Court of Appeals to reverse that decision. In an amicus brief filed in the child custody case of "In the Interest of WKG, a Minor Child," on appeal from the 78th District Court of Wichita County, Texas, the religious organizations said that "a loosely worded divorce agreement has led to an improper judicial intrusion into the sacred domain of religious belief," thus requiring reversal. A Christian mother and Jewish father divorced, with each promising as part of their divorce to provide religious training to their daughter. The mother took her daughter to the Metropolitan Community Church at Wichita Falls, a Protestant church whose minister focuses on gay and lesbian Christians.

    ADOPT NEW MISSION, VISION STATEMENTS
"Preparing for Bold Growth into a New Millennium," says Rev. Troy Perry
    Compiled by Badpuppy's GayToday
The Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches (UFMCC), the world's largest gay and lesbian spirituality organization, has announced adoption of a new mission and vision statement. The new statement was adopted during UFMCC's recent General Conference XVIII in Sydney, Australia. The UFMCC mission statement now reads: "The Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches is a Christian Church founded in and reaching beyond the Gay and Lesbian communities. We embody and proclaim Christian salvation and liberation, Christian inclusivity and community, and Christian social action and justice. We serve among those seeking and celebrating the integration of their spirituality and sexuality." "With the adoption of this new mission statement, UFMCC became the first Christian denomination in history to proclaim the "integration of spirituality and sexuality" as part of its intrinsic mission," said the Reverend Troy D. Perry, moderator of the denomination. The new vision statement enacted in Australia reads: "The vision of the UFMCC is to embody the presence of the Divine in the world, as revealed through Jesus Christ; to challenge the conscience of the universal Christian Church; and to celebrate the inherent worth and dignity of each person. As we move toward this vision, by 2003, the UFMCC will be comprised of at least 70,000 members and adherents who are all called and equipped to minister with excellence. This diverse global body will be widely recognized as a prophetic light and driving force for an inclusive Christian spirituality which celebrates the integration of spirituality and human sexuality. Through our strengthened local churches, we will meet the justice and faith needs of people in increasing numbers of countries and cultures."
