Introduction What's New Calendar Related Links ... Bhakti List Archives Welcome to the Sri Vaishnava Home Page , dedicated to Sri Vaishnavism, one of the preeminent religious traditions of Hinduism. Over its long history, Sri Vaishnavism has influenced nearly every aspect of Indian religious life. Sri Vaishnavism is a multifaceted tradition that has both popular and philosophical aspects. These pages attempt to present a glimpse into a few sides of this religion its vibrant temple culture , the philosophical love poetry of the Alvar saints , the Vedanta discourses of the Upanishadic sages, the penetrating insight of the acharyas all culminating in the grand philosophy of Visishtadvaita Visishtadvaita is the system of thought embodied by the Vedanta, the philosophical portion of the Vedas, India's ancient scriptures. The central idea of Visishtadvaita is this: there exists an Ultimate Principle, an Absolute Being that is the source and substratum of all that exists. This immanent spirit is the inner guide and controller of the whole universe with all its diverse animate and inanimate elements. Communion with this gracious, omnipotent Supreme Being constitutes the supreme end of existence. Such communion is attainable exclusively through self-surrender and undivided, loving meditation. Please read my brief (and incomplete) introduction to Sri Vaishnava philosophy before proceeding. Feel free to

People of the Third Sex

Introduction
Let me first offer my respectful obeisances unto my beloved gurudeva A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Mindful of his desire to see all classes of human society included within the Vedic system of spiritual upliftment, I humbly attempt to write this paper. It is also my desire to help steer readers away from the pitfalls of discrimination and hate based upon bodily distinctions, so often the trap of mundane religionists.

Vaishnava Philosophy
Yoga Connecting with the Supreme

A popular philosophy of life these days is, "Everything is relative. What is good for me is not necessarily good for you (and vice versa). Therefore nobody shall tell me what to do, because there are no absolute truths . Everything is relative." But this materially attractive philosophy is seriously flawed. " Everything is relative" is an absolute statement. How do you know that everything is relative? It is good that people have become suspicious of the term "absolute truth." Much cruelty has been and still is inflicted upon people in the name of the "Absolute." Yet what is designated as absolute has nothing to do with and is the very antithesis of Absolute Truth. It is absolutistic untruth. The word "absolute" comes from the latin word absolutum (past participle of the verb absolvere , to "unbind"), meaning "unbound, unconditioned." Therefore the Absolute is not dependent on something relative. Everything relative is dependent on the Absolute. Absolute is all-inclusive, but absolutistic is all-exclusive. So religions or philosophies that claim to be the only ones are not absolute, but they are absolutistic because they exclude others. They cause division and hatred amongst men. Therefore a true understanding of the Absolute Truth is necessary.

Sri Manavala Mahamuni in Historical Context

Prof M.R. Sampathkumaran In most of the Vishnu temples in South India, there are daily prayers for another hundred years of life to be added to Sri Manavala Mahamuni. It is suggested that this prayer commemorates a historic service rendered by him to the Sri Vaishnavas more than five centuries ago. In this connection one significant point may be observed. At the conclusion of the daily services in the temples, there is a prayer for the new dispensation established by Sri Ramanuja to flourish. This is followed by an address to Manavala Mahamuni that he should live for another hundred years. Complete Article ... Sri Manavala Mamuni's
